Chieftains’ times are dropping each meet
By Ginna Young
Running in two cross country meets over the week, the Lake Holcombe athletes continue to show improvement.
Sept. 10 Webster Meet
On the road at Webster, the Chieftains were still getting used the next level of competition, since they are so young and don’t have running mates.
“It’s coming along,” said coach Greg “Cookie” Anderson.
Junior Alex Dixon finished in 24th for the boys, in a time of 22:27, while for the girls, freshman Lane Porter came in at 31:21. The times were good, considering the conditions.
“It was kind of a warm day,” said Anderson.
Sept. 12 Stanley-Boyd Meet
Those warm temperatures kept on for the next competition, going up against 11 schools.
Dixon improved his time, finishing in 22nd (21:54), with Porter in 38th (32:17).
The runners are working hard, which does not go unnoticed by Anderson.
“They’re getting in shape,” he said. “Their times are going down.”
