By Ginna Young Going into the Sept. 13 home game, the Cadott football program knew it would be hard going against Webster. Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Webster snuck one in over the goal line in the second quarter and the two-point conversion was good.

The Hornets answered back in the third quarter, with a nine-yard touchdown by junior Aiden Rykal. The twopoint conversion was unsuccessful and Cadott trailed by two. Webster put another touchdown on the board before the end of the third, to take a 14-6 lead.

Cadott managed to squeeze in one more touchdown in the fourth quarter, with Rykal running it in, but the two-point conversion failed and the Tigers went home with the slim, 14-12 victory.

“Tough loss,” said coach Todd Rykal. “We had a lot of chances. We had the ball within their five yardline, three separate times and came away empty each time. Untimely turnovers also hurt.”

In passing, A. Rykal was 12 for 24, with 167 yards and 2 interceptions. Leading on rushing, was sophomore Owen Fasbender, with 54 yards, followed by senior Warren Bowe, with 51 yards. A. Rykal had 44 rushing yards, with 2 touchdowns, and junior Gavin Roscoe had 12 yards.

For receiving, Roscoe notched 77 yards, while senior Blane Mengel ended with 38 yards, with sophomore Riley Winchell right behind for 36 yards and Bowe adding 16 yards.

“Kids were resilient though, and kept marching up and down the field,” said T. Rykal. “We just have to get better at punching it in for touchdowns.”
