Cornell shuts down foes

It was a good opening to the conference season, as Cornell’s volleyball program took on two opponents, coming away with the win in both matches.

Sept. 3 vs. Birchwood (W 3-0)

The Chiefs hosted the first game, as Birchwood came to town. Cornell handily won the opening set, 25-14, and the second set, 25-20, but the Bobcats came roaring back to claim the win in the third set, 26-24. Cornell refused to go down and earned the victory in the fourth set, 25-19.

Senior Briana Glaus ended the night with 12 kills, while senior Richelle Raether had 9, while junior Kallee Dekarske finished with 5 aces and 22 assists. Senior Candice Spaeth was strong at the serving line, with 13 attempts and 3 aces, followed by sophomore Ishani Foulk, with 15 assists and 5 aces.

Leading the team in digs, was senior Alyssa Bowe, who also added 4 aces.

Sept. 5 vs. Bruce (W 3-0)

The next match was on the road at Bruce, which was a shutout win, with Cornell taking the sets 25-20, 25-18 and 25-17.
