By Ginna Young

Kicking off the season in the pool, the Lake Holcombe-Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer swimmers were in action at Merrill, for relays against 11 other teams, Aug. 22.

First up, was the 200-yard medley relay, consisting of juniors Megan DeWitt and Liv Repka, senior Sarah Allard and freshman Nayeli Schilling, who placed fourth in that heat.

Next, came the 500-yard freestyle relay, with a variety of distances for swimmers Sidney Heath, sophomore, who swam the 50-yard freestyle; junior Abby Fye, in the 100-yard freestyle; Dewitt, in the 150-yard freestyle; and Allard, who swam the 200-yard freestyle.

“With this being a longer event, the girls got to focus on race strategies,” said coach Whitney Hanson. “Overall, the girls took third in their heat and fourth place overall.”

Then came the 200-yard freestyle relay, with senior Ella Burr, juniors Lyra Moffitt and Kiara Howard, and Heath competing. Each one swam a 50 free, with the team placing fifth in their heat.

The last event was the 400-yard freestyle relay of Schilling, senior Alyxandria Lunemann, Repka and sophomore Brooklyn Adsiek. The girls each swam a 100-yard freestyle, coming up with fifth place.

Overall, the Tridents placed seventh out of 12 teams, and Hanson and assistant coach Leah Fuse are looking forward to what the season holds.

“It was great to see the girls have fun, support one another and get some good racing in,” said Hanson.
