Sox reel in Sturgeon in season finale win

By Ginna Young

It seems as though the season just began, but for the Cadott Red Sox Baseball team, the regular year’s games are at an end.

July 27 vs. Tilden Tigers (L 12-8)

Tilden came to call on the Red Sox for Nabor Days, with Cadott hoping to come out on top in the next-to-last regular season match-up. The game started out evenly, as each team scored a run in the first inning, but by the second, the Tigers opened it up and had three runs cross the plate, along with seven more in the next inning.

The Sox attempted a comeback in the fourth inning, with a run, but Tilden scored one more run the next inning. In a last-gas effort, Cadott put up four runs in the bottom of the seventh and final inning, but it wasn’t enough to unseat the Tigers and the visitors claimed a 12-8 road win.

Pitching for Cadott, was Gio Basile, who gave up 4 hits and 3 runs, while striking out 3. Rick Danielson also took a turn, allowing 4 hits and striking out a batter, while Warren Bowe’s stats mirrored that.

Offensively, coming up with 2 hits each, were Jack Kein, Luke Erickson, Logan Burzysnki, Zac Merritt and Axel Tegels, with Jack Redwine adding a hit.

July 28 vs. Jim Falls Sturgeons (W 9-4)

The next day, Jim Falls came to town, to finish out the regular season. It was a slow start, but Cadott got a run in the second inning and added another two runs the following inning.

They continued to hold the Sturgeons scoreless until the fifth inning, when Jim Falls had two runs cross the plate, as well a run in the sixth, to tie it up. Scoring dried up in the seventh and the game went to extra innings.

Cadott wasn’t about to let the game slip away from them and they knocked in six runs in the bottom of the eighth, including a grand slam from Chad Kron.

Jim Falls tried to catch up, with a run in the ninth, but that was all they could get and the Sox took the win, 9-4.

Zack Thiesse went the entire game, his ninth of the season, picking up his eighth victory of the year, giving up 15 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 2 batters.

On the offensive side, Bowe and Carter Hesselman each had 2 hits, while Jonah Hanson, Redwine, Burzynski, Kron and Ely Johnson all came up with a hit.

For the second year in a row, the Red Sox ended with a 10-10 record and find out July 30, who they play in the playoffs.
