Marathon, Stratford Legion baseball ready for regional

The Marathon and Stratford summer American Legion baseball teams will compete in the 19U Class A regional being held at the Stratford High School baseball diamond, located at 213300 STH 97, from this Friday, July 26 through Monday, July 29.
It is a double-elimination regional tournament. The schedule includes Marathon Post 469 starting regional play at 11 a.m. this Friday, July 26, against Clintonville.
Crandon plays against Wittenberg at 1:30 p.m. this Friday, July 26.
Stratford’s Legion baseball team plays at 4 p.m. this Friday, July 26, against Tomahawk.
The other games on Saturday through Monday are yet to be determined.
Whichever of the six teams make it out of the Class A regional in Stratford with less then two losses will play in the 19U Class A state tournament on Aug. 2-6 in Osseo.
Marathon Legion
The Marathon American Legion Post 469 baseball team concluded its regular season on Tuesday with an 18-5-2 record, heading into this weekend’s 19U Class A regional in Stratford.
Post 469 swept a doubleheader against Rib Lake on Tuesday by identical 4-3 scores in both games.
Cody Radtke was the winning pitcher in the first game. True Thurs hit a perfect three for three with a home run. Radtke doubled.
Swayne Stencil earned the pitching win in the second game. Quillan Kunkel batted a perfect two for two in the victory.
Post 469 blanked Abby-Colby, 4-0, at home on Monday. Tyler Underwood struck out 11 batters to earn the pitching win. Cooper Hoeksema hit a perfect two for two while Jorey Kunkel collected a pair of RBIs and Tyler Underwood doubled.
Marathon destroyed Minocqua, 11-1, at home on Friday. Blake Underwood was the winning pitcher.
Radtke batted a perfect four for four with a double. Grant Warren hit two for four with three RBIs. Thurs hit a home run and collected three RBIs. Blake Underwood doubled.
Post 469 won the home doubleheader against Rib Lake on Thursday.
Grant Warren earned the pitching win in the team’s 13-0 victory in the first game. Hoeksema hit two for three with a home run and three RBIs. Evan DeBroux collected four RBIs and Blake Underwood added two RBIs. Warren doubled.
Thurs earned the pitching win in the team’s 3-0 win against Rib Lake in the nightcap. Blake McCain batted a perfect two for two in the victory.
Stratford Legion
Stratford’s Legion baseball team nipped Abbotsford, 7-6, on the road July 16.
Leadoff hitter Riley Spindler batted two for four with a double, walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Designated hitter Jaeger Ormond was two for four with a pair of runs scored.
Stratford lost a road doubleheader to the Wisconsin Rapids Legion last Thursday by scores of 8-4 and 11-0.
Third baseman Vance Kielman hit two for four with a double and two runs scored in the first game. Spindler also doubled in the first game.
