ALL-STARBASEBALL - Medford’s Hraby adds to his all-star week in late June

ALL-STAR BASEBALL

For the second straight summer, a Medford graduate will be heading right from one state all-star game to another.

Tanner Hraby added a second all-star berth when he was recently named to the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Classic to be played June 28-29 in Oshkosh. Hraby is also playing in the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association’s Division 2 Boys All-Game June 27 in Wisconsin Dells.

Logan Baumgartner also did the same two-game swing last year.

Hraby landed a spot last week on the 18-man West roster. The West will play the East at 6:30 p.m. on Friday night and will face the North at 12:30 p.m. and the South at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday of that weekend at Oshkosh North’s EJ Schneider Field.

Hraby was a unanimous pick as a utility player for the 2024 All-Great Northern Conference team. It’s the second straight season he’s filled that spot. Hraby was an honorable mention All-State selection last year as well.

This year, he was Medford’s leadoff hitter, top pitcher and its shortstop when he wasn’t pitching. He hit .443 (39 for 88) with a .558 on-base percentage and .761 slugging percentage. He hit five homers and 13 doubles and drove in 26 runs. He scored 42 runs and drew 21 walks while striking out only five times. He also stole 15 bases.

As a pitcher, he had an 8-1 record for the 25-4 Raiders. In 63.1 innings and 14 appearances, including 13 starts, he allowed only 43 hits and 22 runs, nine of which were earned, for a 0.995 earned runs average. He struck out 78 hitters and walked 25.

Hraby is planning to play baseball while attending UW-River Falls next year.

Among the notable players from this area also on the West roster are Mosinee’s Keagen Jirschele, the Great Northern Conference Player of the Year; JV Castillo of Abbotsford-Colby; Easton Stone of Rice Lake; Nate Langbehn of D.C. Everest; Noah Marschke of Stevens Point and Abraham Ahlberg, the Northwood-Solon Springs pitcher who shut down Rib Lake in a 10-2 WIAA Division 4 sectional final win on June 4.
