Edgar’s boys 4x400-meter relay put an exclamation point on last weekend’s WIAA Division 3 state track and field meet with a first-place finish in Saturday’s final event.
The Wildcats 4x400-meter relay finished the race in three minutes, 25.44 seconds and included seniors Teegan Streit and Kohlbe Weisenberger, junior Ty Schnelle and sophomore Tucker Streit. Alternates were sophomore Mav Butt and freshman Caius Higgins. The relay’s firstplace win gave the Edgar boys team 10 points to bring it within two points of tying Stratford for the state runners-up trophy. The Wildcats finished in third place even though they only competed in four state events.
Teegan Streit had the unique opportunity to run relays with his younger brother, Tucker Streit, while being coached by his father, Greg Streit, who is the Edgar head varsity boys and girls track and field coach. His mother, Mandy Streit, was his jumping coach.
Teegan Streit began last weekend’s state tournament by winning the Division 3 triple jump championship with 44 feet, 11-1/2 inches.
“Winning the triple jump was my main goal coming into the weekend and once I

got that done, I was just able to have fun for the rest of the weekend with the relays,” Teegan Streit said. “It just kind of lifted the weight off my shoulders and I was able to run free in those relays.”
Teegan Streit spoke about how much his mother helped him improve his triple jump over the years.
“She’s been training me as a triple jumper since I’ve been in elementary school by just doing random little jumps, and I wasn’t that great at it in middle school but she installed confidence in me and I grew up and became a good jumper who was able to win state,” he said.
He was also happy to end the state tournament on a high note by being a member of Edgar’s state champion 4x400-meter relay.
“It’s the best feeling in the world,” Teegan Streit said. “Being able to accomplish this with my friends and brother is one of the greatest feelings that I’ve ever felt and I’m just happy.”
Teegan Streit said his father badly wanted the 4x400-meter relay to win the state title.
“He told us if we got that done then he’d probably be the most happiest that he’s ever been because we trained pretty hard for this and to be able to get it done on the biggest stage is an amazing feeling,” he said.
Greg Streit couldn’t be prouder of the boys 4x400-meter relay.
“Our 4x400-meter relay finished the year as state champions and undefeated outdoors,” he said. “Ty, Tucker, Teegan and Kohlbe are a dream to coach. They worked incredibly hard to win this state championship and they set school records along the way. These four guys and what they did in this relay will be talked about for a long time. They are a great group of guys who kept working and getting better.”
The Edgar boys 4x200-meter relay broke the school’s 2021 record with a second-place finish in 1:30.26. The same four boys on the state champion 4x400meter relay are also on the state runner-up 4x200-meter relay. Alternates were senior Karter Butt and junior Austin Schreiber.
Kohlbe Weisenberger spoke about how it was nice to break the school record held by the 2021 Wildcats 4x200-meter relay that included his older brother, Ayden Weisenberger.
“It feels great because we’ve been working hard all year to get the record,” Kohlbe Weisenberger said.
Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay made the state podium with a fifth-place finish in 43.34 seconds and included Teegan Streit, Weisenberger, Schnelle and Schreiber. Alternates were Tucker Streit and freshman Kennen Van Ornum.
Greg Streit is proud of Edgar’s tradition of having great track relay teams.
“To podium in all three sprint relays is a sprint coach’s dream,” he said. “We have now podiumed, which is the top six, in 14 out of 18 boys sprint relays over the last six years. It definitely shows a high level of commitment to speed and strength training by our student athletes.”
Edgar’s girls 4x100-meter relay took eighth place at state in 51.24 seconds and included seniors Malana Koehler and Brooke Imhoff, junior Addison Trawicki and freshman Rachel Burke. Alternates were senior Amelia Gajewski and junior Mia Stencil.
Senior Kyra Anderson placed ninth in the discus at state with a throw of 108 feet, six inches on Saturday. Burke placed 15th in the triple jump with 32 feet, 7-3/4 inches.
