Track postseason progresses

Both the Stratford boys and girls varsity track and field teams are enjoying historic seasons. First, both of them won Marawood Conference championships for the first time in the same season. On Monday in Marathon, both Tiger squads also captured WIAA Division 3 regional championships for the first time in the same season. The Stratford boys won their second straight regional title while the girls won their first regional title since 2007.
Stratford’s boys team scored 177 points at Monday’s regional to beat runners-up Marathon by 46 points. Marathon scored 45 points more than third-place Edgar. The race for the girls regional championship was much closer with Stratford only beating runners-up Marathon by 3-1/2 points.
The top four individuals and relay teams who placed in each regional event advance to sectionals this Thursday, May 23. Individual athletes and relays who advanced from Edgar, Marathon and Straford will compete in the Rosholt sectional.
Stratford regional results
Junior Jett Schoenherr won both the boys 100-meter dash in 11.22 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 22.84 seconds. Senior Cody Tichy placed third in the 100-meter dash in 11.88 seconds to also qualify for the sectional in Rosholt. Freshman Austin Niehaus took third place in the 400-meter dash in 54.84 seconds and junior Garrett Zuelke finished third in the 800-meter run in two minutes, 7.09 seconds.
Freshman Brianna Sheridan won both the girls 100-meter dash in 12.70 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 26.35 seconds. Senior Sadie Weigel placed third in the 100-meter dash in 13.40 seconds to also qualify for section-als. Junior Breleigh Skaya took third place in the 800-meter run in 2:33.80.
Junior Cree DeFoe placed second in both the 1,600-meter run in 4:49.04 and the 3,200-meter run in 10:35.10. Junior Xander Curtice placed third in the 300-meter hurdles in 45.34 seconds. Junior Kayla Casperson won both the 1,600-meter run in 5:41.51 and the 3,200-meter run in 12:38.40. Sophomore Dawnyel Martin placed second in the 300-meter hurdles in 50.18 seconds.
The boys 4x100-meter relay team of senior Payton Glenn, Schoenherr and sophomores Coltan Breit and Zander Zawislan took first place in 43.28 seconds. These same boys also teamed up to take second place in the 4x200meter relay in 1:32.95. The girls 4x100-meter relay of sophomore Hailey Decker, Martin, Sheridan and Weigel placed third in 51.93 seconds.
Stratford’s boys 4x400-meter relay of junior Kaden Foster, Niehaus, Zawislan and Zuelke took second place in 3:34.33. The boys relay of juniors Ethan Heeg, Derek Wiese, Reid Miller and Zuelke placed second in 8:35.42. The girls 4x800-meter relay of freshman Jaela Jochimsen, sophomores Lily Dabbert and Kaylie McHugh and Skaya took second place in 11:04.63.
Senior boy Koehler Kilty won the shot put with a throw of 51 feet, 5-3/4 inches and he took third place in the discus with 141 feet, six inches. Foster placed second in the high jump with five feet, 10 inches and Curtice was third with five feet, eight inches. Glenn won the long jump with 20 feet, 7-3/4 inches and Breit placed third with 19 feet, 8-1/4 inches.
Junior Brandon Knetter took second place in the triple jump with 42 feet, 9-1/2 inches and freshman Connor Kraft placed third with 41 feet, 7-3/4 inches. Sheridan won the girls long jump with 16 feet, 8-1/2 inches and junior Emily Rundle placed third in the triple jump with 32 feet, 5-1/2 inches.
Marathon regional results
Junior Shilo Blake took second place in the 800-meter run in 2:31.82 and she placed third in the 1,600-meter run in 6:00.15. Freshman Greenly Treankler placed third in the 3,200-meter run in 14:57.56. Senior Alisha Blender won the 100-meter hurdles in 17.14 seconds and junior Jayden Henrichs took third place in the 300-meter hurdles in 54.96 seconds.
Freshman Logan Peters took third place in the 3,200-meter run in 10:53.04. Junior Logan Witberler took second place in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.09 seconds while freshman Garrett Bracewell placed third in 16.45 seconds and freshman Fred Tylinski was fourth in 16.61 seconds.

Marathon’s boys 4x800-meter relay team of Ethan Huebsch, Annis, Rohland and Krautkramer took first place in 8:33.83. The girls 4x400-meter relay of senior Ava Krueger, junior Addie Molepske, Blake and Putnam placed fourth in 4:24.44. The girls 4x800-meter relay of freshman Aubrey Fieri, sophomore Mya Yach, junior Calyse Fieri and Treankler placed fourth in 11:41.05.
Marcell won the boys discus with a throw of 177 feet, 11 inches and he placed fourth in the shot put with 43 feet, five inches. Sophomore Mitchell Zemke took third place in the shot put with 44 feet, 1-1/4 inches. Senior Ashley Gertschen took second place in both the shot put with 32 feet, 9-3/4 inches and discus with 112 feet, four inches. Krueger placed fourth in the shot put with 31 feet, 10 inches.
Junior River Stanecki won the pole vault with a height of 12 feet, three inches. Senior Jacob Smith placed second with 12 feet and Pintor was fourth with 11 feet, nine inches. Junior Izzy Varden placed third in the high jump with four feet, 10 inches.
Edgar regional results
Junior Austin Schreiber took second place in the 100-meter dash in 11.63 seconds. Sophomore Sam Schmidt placed fourth in the 800-meter run in 2:33.83. Sophomore Cade Koch placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run in 4:59.15.
The boys 4x100-meter relay team of seniors Teegan Streit and Kohlbe Weisenberger, junior Ty Schnelle and Schreiber took second place in 43.46 seconds. The girls 4x100-meter relay of seniors Brooke Imhoff and Malana Koehler, junior Addison Trawicki and freshman Rachel Burke took second place in 51.92 seconds. These same four girls teamed up to win the 4x200-meter relay in 1:50.64.
Edgar’s boys 4x200-meter relay of sophomore Tucker Streit, Teegan Streit, Schnelle and Weisenberger took first place in 1:31.37. These same four boys teamed up to also win the 4x400-meter relay in 3:26.99. The boys 4x800-meter relay of freshmen Isaiah Kraft, Caius Higgins and Tyler Schmidt and Koch placed fourth in 9:05.92. The girls 4x400meter relay of sophomore Sam Schmidt, Koehler, Burke and Trawicki placed third in 4:23.25.
Senior Kyra Anderson won the discus with a throw of 124 feet, 10 inches and she placed third in the shot put with 32 feet, 1-1/2 inches. Freshman Naquene Ellenbecker placed third in the discus with 101 feet, seven inches. Senior Karter Butt took second place in the shot put with 46 feet, 3-3/4 inches and junior Zander Chenier placed fourth in the discus with 126 feet, two inches.
Teegan Streit won the boys triple jump with 43 feet, 4-1/4 inches. Freshman Rachel Burke won the triple jump with 33 feet, 9-3/4 inches. Imhoff placed third in the girls long jump with 15 feet, eight inches.
Athens regional results
The Athens boys and girls track and field squads competed in Monday’s WIAA Division 3 Gilman regional. Individuals who placed in the top four in their regional events advance to the Cameron sectional this Thursday, May 23.
Senior Ryan Peel won the Gilman regional boys pole vault championship with 14 feet, six inches and junior Kyle Schreiner took second place with 13 feet. Junior Malaina Telschow won the girls pole vault championship with 10 feet, six inches and sophomore Ava Ford took second place with nine feet. Ford won the 100-meter dash in 13.29 seconds.
Athens sophomore Sy’Rih Hartwig won the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 3-1/2 inches and she took third place in the discus with 103 feet, four inches. Junior Brianna Sheahan won the 1,600-meter run in 5:55.73 and she took second place in the 3,200-meter run in 12:33.89. Senior Drew Haines placed fourth in the boys 800-meter run in 2:09.67.
