L-G softball team defeats Owen-Withee
The Loyal-Greenwood (L-G) softball team traveled to play Owen-Withee (O-W) last Wednesday, completing its regular season on a high note with a more than 10-point victory.
The game opened with L-G scoring two runs in the first compared to O-W’s one. However, in the second is when L-G really shone, with almost everyone on the team scoring a run. L-G scored eight while O-W had just one additional run. The scoring continued for L-G in the third and fourth, with three runs scored in each of those, plus one more run scored in the fifth to make the final score 17-2 for an L-G win.
L-G scored 17 runs on 10 hits, while O-W had two runs on one hit. L-G committed two errors while O-W had eight. L-G’s top hitter was Reese Clintsman, with three hits and four runs batted in. Jordynn Corder had two hits. Madison Stieglitz, Tysen Lindner, Tiffany Mitte, Lizzie Lindner and Madelyn Suda each had one. Tysen Lindner led the team in runs scored, with four. Other run scorers were Mitte with three; Stieglitz, Gianna Petkovsek and Lizzie Lindner with two; and Clintsman, Liv Lucas, Karsyn Penk and Neela Baehr with one.
Mitte, Lizzie Lindner and Suda each hit a double. Clintsman had three total bases. Tysen Lindner used her agility to steal three bases during the game. Stieglitz and Penk each stole one. L-G had seven runners left on base while O-W had three.
Suda and Penk shared the pitching mound, with each pitching two innings. Suda allowed two runs on one hit. She walked one and struck out two. Penk allowed no hits, runs or walks; committed no errors; and struck out one.
