Area track teams compete at regionals, several advance

Local teams competed at the WIAADivision 3 Track and Field Regional 2B on Monday at Marathon High School, with several athletes advancing to the sectional meet, which will be held at Rosholt on Thursday.

The first four finishers in each event qualified for sectionals. Athletes had to place in the top eight to earn points for their team.

Loyal Loyal had nine athletes qualify for sectionals, either individually or as part of a relay team. Qualifiers included the girls 4x100m team, which won with a time of 51.80 seconds. Team members were Summer Smith, Sheila Tellock, Noelle Teschner andAddysen Wolf, with Hope Peroshek and Molly Zvolena as backups. In addition, Tellock won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10’7”. Olivia Nikolai took second in that event at 9’3”. The girls 4x200m relay team finished second at 1:53.30. Team members were Zvolena, Peroshek, Teschner and Summer Smith, with Tellock as a backup.

Additional sectional qualifiers for Loyal included Connor Genteman, who won the boys 800m run with a time of 1:59.97. Bryce Deegan took second in the boys 400m dash at 52.83 and third in the boys 200m dash at 23.80. Wolf took second in the girls 100m dash at 13.23 seconds and in the girls 200m dash at 26.96 seconds. Nikolai placed fourth in the girls 100m hurdles at 18.24 seconds.

Not advancing to the next round of competition but still earning points for their team were the following athletes. On the girls’ side, Summer Smith placed fifth in the triple jump at 32’2” while Zvolena took sixth at 32’1.5”. Annika Schley placed sixth in the 400m dash at 1:09.21. Peroshek placed sixth in the discus throw at 92’7”. Zvolena took seventh place in the long jump at 14’9.5”. Schley took seventh in the 800m run at 2:49.57. Gwen LaMarr took seventh in the 300m hurdles at 57.98.

On the boys’ side, Jaden Smith placed sixth in the discus throw at 120’8”. Payton Tsai took seventh in the pole vault at 11’. The 4x100m team placed seventh with a time of 49.88. Team members were Peyton Farmer, Preston Farmer, Jacob Schmidt and Eli Zettler, with Jerome Buchanan as a backup.

Altogether, the Loyal girls placed fourth out of 12 teams with a score of 76 points. Other scores were Stratford 112, Marathon 108.5, Newman Catholic 82, Edgar 74, Auburndale 70, Neillsville 62.5, Columbus Catholic 28, Northland Lutheran 27, Spencer 25, Granton 12 and Greenwood 5.

The Loyal boys took eighth out of 10 teams with 31 points. Other scores were Stratford 177, Marathon 131, Edgar 86, Neillsville 71.5, Columbus Catholic 67.5, Auburndale 65, Newman Catholic 48, Spencer 17 and Northland Lutheran 5.

Spencer Spencer High School saw two relay teams and one individual advance to sectionals. Autumn Davis took fourth in the girls 200m dash at 28.72, as well as in the 400m dash at 1:06.28 . The girls 4x200m relay team also took fourth with a time of 1:54.81. Team members were Davis, Alina Jackson, Rachel Nieman and Caitlin Clark, with Brooklyn Baumgarten and Tahneya Anderson as backups. The boys 4x100m relay team placed fourth as well, with a time of 47.95. Team members were Olguin-Cano,Alexander Baumgarten, Logan Ehlert and Teddy Meyer, with Sam Helgestad as a backup.

Not advancing but still earning points for Spencer was the girls the 4x800m relay team, which placed sixth at 12:34.05. Team members were Isabella Van-Kerkhof, Kaydence Plaskey, Clelia Foulon-Detrez and Ariana Krueger, with Addison Knecht as a backup. The 4x400m relay team also placed sixth with a time of 4:54.46. Team members were Brooklyn Baumgarten, Anderson, Alicia Ostricki and Knecht. Clark placed sixth in the 100m dash at 13.87 and eighth in the long jump at 14’9”.

On the boys’ side, Alexander Baumgarten took sixth in the pole vault at 11’. Efrain Olguin-Cano took sixth in the 100m dash at 12.27, as well as sixth in the long jump at 17’9.5”.

The boys 4x400m relay placed seventh with a time of 4:05.5. Team members were Mason Dieringer, Meyer, Helgestad and Ehlert. The boys 4x200m relay team took eighth, with team members of Olguin-Cano, Alexander Baumgarten, Ehlert and Meyer, with Dieringer as a backup. Their time was 1:42.95.

Granton Anna Kayhart was the lone athlete to advance from Granton. She finished third in the girls 100m hurdles with a time of 17.73. Other point scorers included Faustina Thomas, who took seventh in the girls 100m dash at 14.15, and the girls 4x100m relay team, which placed seventh with a time of 52.27. Team members were Maya McConkey, Jordan Berg, Kayhart and Thomas, with Abby Schoessow and Mayleth Gonzalez as backups.

Greenwood Renaya Horvath will move on to sectionals. She took first place in three events: the 400m dash wheelchair event at 1:39.29, the 100m dash wheelchair at 25.13, and the mixed shot put wheelchair with a distance of 13’9.5”.

Faith Kolano narrowly missed out on sectionals, taking fifth in the girls 600m run with a time of 6:10.06. She also took eighth in the girls 800m run at 2:50.54.
