The Loyal and Greenwood high school track and field teams competed at Marathon last Wednesday, May 8, as a makeup meet for the day before.

Athletes had to finish in the top eight for their event in order to score points for their team.

Loyal girls earning points were as follows. Molly Zvolena won the triple jump with a distance of 30’7”. Addysen Wolf won the 200m dash in 26.87 seconds. Sheila Tellock took second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10’. Summer Smith took third in the triple jump with a distance of 30’5.25”. Olivia Nikolai finished third in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 18.47 seconds. Annika Schley took third in the 400m dash at 1:09.01. Gwen LaMarr took third in the 300m hurdles at 57.73. Zvolena took fourth in the long jump at 14’5.5”. Schley placed fifth in the 800m run at 2:47.35. Nikolai tied with three others for fifth place in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 8’. Summer Smith took fifth in the 200m dash at 28.66 and Noelle Teschner took sixth in that event at 28.88. Lesly Soto took seventh in the 100m hurdles at 21.75.

The girls 4x100m relay team finished second with a time of 53.80, and the girls 4x200m relay team placed third at 1:54.75. Team members for both were Zvolena, Hope Peroshek, Teschner and Summer Smith.

For the boys, Bryce Deegan won the triple jump at 38’5.75”, won the 200m dash at 23.73 and took the silver medal in the 400m dash at 54.11. Connor Genteman won the 800m run as the only competitor to make it under the two-minute mark at 1:59.87. Jaden Smith took third in the discus throw at 111’7”, as well as third in the shot put at 39’0.75”. Jerome Buchanan placed fourth in the long jump at 16’8.5”. Devon Roehl took seventh in the shot put at 30’3.75”. Payton Tsai took seventh in the pole vault at 10’. Kody Szaflarski placed eighth in the high jump with a height of 4’10”.

NG comes up short versus Colby-Abby

The Neillsville-Granton (NG) Warriors took on Colby-Abbotsford (C-A) at home on the softball field last Thursday. Unfortunately for the Warriors, they came up a little short with C-A taking the 23-17 win. Above left, Shaylen Pierce hits a grounder. Earning runs for NG were Canfield with four; Shaylen Pierce with three; Keltie Schoen, Ormond and McKendy Barth with two; and Johansson, Sydney Subke, Mindy Dix and Dani Bobak with one. Canfield was her team’s leading hitter with three hits. Schoen, Johansson, Shylah Walk and Barth each had two.

seventh in the shot put with a distance of 28’9.75” and sixth in the 400m dash at 1:10.50. Renaya Horvath took first in the girls shot put wheelchair at a distance of 13’4” and first in the 400m dash for wheelchair at 1:42.28. Bria Thomas claimed fifth place in the 300m hurdles at 1:05.76 and eighth place in the 100m hurdles at 22.65. Faith Kolano finished third in the girls 1600m run at 6:18.91.

The girls 4x200m relay team took sixth with a time of 2:15.77. Team members were Kayla Grambsch, Ella Riemer, Allison Stieglitz and Thomas. The 4x100m relay team took sixth as well with a time of 1:00.78. Team members were Grambsch, Laura Justin, Riemer and Lainy Trampush.

For the boys, Andrew Lindner placed eighth in the triple jump at 29’6.25” while Peyton Ellis took eighth in the long jump at 15’0.25”.

Team scores The Loyal girls placed second out of seven teams with 87.5 points. Other point totals were: Marathon 182.5, Athens 78.5, Medford Area 76, Rib Lake 66.5, Greenwood 23.5 and Columbus Catholic 15.5.

The Loyal boys took fourth out of seven teams with 60 points. Other scores were: Marathon 199, Columbus Catholic 84, Athens 64, Rib Lake 51, Medford Area 50 and Greenwood 2.

With it being a makeup meet, a few of the events were not run to allow Marathon to host, since the school had previous commitments. Events left off were the 100 meter dash, 3200 meter run, 4x800m relay and 4x400 relay.
