Loyal’s 4x100m girls relay, Genteman win events at Rosholt
The Loyal High School track and field team traveled to Rosholt for the “Back the Track” invitational on Friday. Despite the chilly weather, with temperatures hovering in the mid-40s, the Greyhounds were able to heat up the competition and earn several top eight finishes to get points for their team.
Senior Connor Genteman won the men’s 800m run with a time of 2:04.69, more than eight seconds ahead of his closest competitor. He also won the 1600 meters, this one narrowly by less than half a second. He had a time of 4:49.40 while the second-place runner finished in 4:50.15.
Other male athletes earning points for Loyal were Jaden Smith, who took fifth in the discus with a throw of 107’9”; and Peyton Tsai, who took third place in the pole vault at a height of 10’.
Female athletes earning points for Loyal were the girls 4x100m relay team, who won their event with a time of 54:59. Relay runners were Molly Zvolena, Hope Peroshek, Noelle Teschner and Sheila Tellock.
Also, Tellock took third place in the women’s 100m dash at 13:11. Her teammate Addysen Wolf was close behind her, taking fifth place with a time 13.30.
Olivia Nikolai took third in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 7’. She also clinched the eighth-place spot in the 100m hurdles, with a time of 19:35.
The girls 4x200m relay came in fourth place at 2:00.91. Team members included Zvolena, Peroshek, Teschner and Annika Schley.
Zvolena took sixth in the long jump, with a jump of 14’3.75”. She also placed fifth in the triple jump, with a distance of 31’.
Peroshek took seventh place in the discus, with a throw of 77’9”.
Both the girls and boys teams from Loyal finished ninth. The Loyal girls scored 41 points. Other team scores were Wittenberg-Birnamwood 121.5, St. Mary Catholic 83, Wautoma 77, Kohler 74.5, Rosholt 69, Bonduel 69, Pacelli 52, Suring 44, Wild Rose 33 and Lena/St. Thomas Academy 32.
The boys had 30 points. Other team scores were Kohler 104, Bonduel 100, St. Mary Catholic 92, Rosholt 69, Suring 67, Lena/St. Thomas Academy 64, Pacelli 56, Wautoma 47, Wild Rose 29, Wittenberg-Birnamwood 14 and Almond-Bancroft 7.
