It was a great week for Cadott’s softball program, as they began conference action midway through.
April 9 vs. Elk Mound, non-conference (L 7-2)
The week started with a trip to Elk Mound, where it was slow going on offense for the Hornets, but junior Kasey Moldrem had 7 strikeouts, got the bats alive for Cadott, with a double in the seventh and senior Kendall Webster came up with a single after.
“Unfortunately, we weren’t able to hang on in the last inning,” said coach Lexie Rothbauer.
The match went to Elk Mound, 7-2.
April 11 vs. Owen-Withee, non-conference (W16-1)
In their home opener, the Hornets faced Owen-Withee, with Cadott notching 11 hits to take a 16-1 win.
Sophomore Kennedy Nerdrum struck out five batters to help her team get the victory.
April 12 vs. Regis, conference (W12-1)
The next day, Cadott saw Regis come to town for the first conference game of the year. Moldrem again took the mound and had a perfect game, with 10 strikeouts, pitching a no-hitter, to give the Hornets a 12-1 win.
“The team had a total of seven hits and eight RBIs,” said Rothbauer.
Junior Rilei Weeks ended with a double and a triple, while sophomore Abi Bowe had 3 RBIs.
April 15 vs. Augusta, non-conference (W 10-0)
Finally, Cadott hosted Augusta, claiming a 10-0 shutout over the Beavers.
“The bats were alive, with 13 team hits,” said Rothbauer.
Nerdrum had 3 doubles and 2 RBIs, with Weeks recording 3 singles and an RBI.
Barone turned a double play at second base for the defense, while Nerdrum was at the mound, with 5 strikeouts.
“Another win for the Hornets,” said Rothbauer.
