Cadott’s girls basketball program was in playoff action over the week, hosting the first game as a No. 6 seed, before being on the road for the next phase of the post-season.

Feb. 20 vs. Chequamegon Regional (W 65-16)

Coming in as the No. 11 seed, Chequamegon was on the Hornets’ home court, but couldn’t get their offense going, giving Cadott a good footing for a strong lead early on.

“Girls came out strong and ready to play,” said coach Dave Hazuga.

Limiting their opponents to just 12 points in the first half and only four in the second part of the game, Cadott claimed the win, 65-16.

“Being our last game on our home court, the girls wanted to make it a good one, the seniors went out with a strong game,” said Hazuga. “Playoff games are always exciting.”

Leading for the Hornets, was senior Emma Kowalczyk, with 19 points, 11 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists, while sophomore Taylor Hager had 9 points and 9 steals. Sophomore Lilly Spaeth was right behind, with 8 points and 5 assists.

Senior Bradee Burish, junior Kasey Moldrem and sophomore Kennedy Nerdrum all came up with 6 points. Junior Tarynn Donahue followed that with 5 points, with sophomore Danielle Sikora adding 4 points and 6 rebounds. Junior McKenna Steinke chipped in with 2 points, to round out the scoring.

Feb. 23 vs. Cameron Regional (L 59-44)

A few days later, Cadott was on the road to take on No. 3 Cameron, but the scoring wasn’t their for the Hornets, as they went into the break, down by 12.

“This is a team that beat us easy early in the season,” said Hazuga. “Our improvements over the course of the season showed we were a much better team this time out.”

By the second half, however, Cadott came storming back to almost match Cameron, but it just wasn’t enough and the Hornets saw their opponents take the win, 59-44.

“It’s always disappointing when the season ends, but the girls made it a good, hard-fought game,” said Hazuga.
