NGL advances 8 wrestlers to sectionals

The Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal wrestling team competed at the WIAA Division 2 Regional at Medford Saturday and found success. Eight wrestlers placed high enough to advance to the sectional meet in Tomahawk this weekend, with three of those wrestlers claiming first place in their individual weight classes.

First-place winners included Dane Luchterhand at 190 pounds, Jakob Luchterhand at 165 pounds and Hudzon-Sebesta Opelt at 150 pounds. Jakob Luchterhand defeated Paxton Rothmeier of Medford Area by 8-6 decision to win the first-place match. Sebesta-Opelt defeated Candin Yeager of Stanley-Boyd by fall (2:00) in the semifinal.

Also advancing for NGL were: Adam Kautzer, who took second place at 132 pounds; and the following wrestlers who took fourth place in their respective weight classes: Chase Lindner, 106 pounds; Rydge Tibbett, 113 pounds; Gavyn McFarlane, 157 pounds; and Jackson Meyer, 285 pounds.

Adam Kautzer defeated Darrin Dorn of Stanley-Boyd by fall (2:50) in the quarterfinal but lost to Jude Stark of Medford Area in the first place match by fall (2:51).

Lindner lost to Cohen Iczowski of Mosinee in the semifinal by 3-2 decision. He also lost to Caden Olson of Medford Area in the third-place match by 8-7 decision.

Tibbett defeated Nickolas Malchow of Medford Area in the fourth-place match by technical fall, 15-0, in 4:47.

McFarlane lost to Gage Losiewicz of Medford Area in the semifinal by fall (3:10). He also lost to Aaron Sturm of Stanley-Boyd in the third-place match.

Meyer defeated Max Dietzman of Medford Area by 5-0 decision in the fourth-place match and Teryn Walls of Mosinee by fall (1:23) in a consolation round.

Wrestlers who competed for NGL but did not advance included the following: - Evan Kautzer (144) defeated Miles Lueck of Bloomer/Colfax in the first championship round by fall (4:47), but lost to Parker Lissner of Medford Area by fall (1:22) in the quarterfinal.

- Josh Reis lost to Troy Trevino of Stanley-Boyd by fall (0:56) in the quarterfinal and to Broden Schilling of Medford Area by fall (1:54) in the second consolation round.
