NGL team wins conference
The Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (NGL) wrestling team hosted the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament at home in Neillsville on Saturday, and walked away as champions, taking first place among the 10 wrestling programs represented. NGL also boasted four individual winners in their respective weight classes. Individual results for NGL were as follows.
Adam Kautzer won the 132-pound weight class. He defeated Luca Burrow of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the quarterfinal by fall (0:41). He then defeated Owen Fasbender of Cadott by 6-5 decision in the semifinal. Finally, he pinned Matt Jakel of Abbotsford/Colby in 3:13 in the first-place match to earn the victory.
Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt (150) took first place in his weight class as well. He received a bye for the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he defeated James McElroy of Bloomer/ Colfax by technical fall, 17-0, in 2:44. Then he beat Candin Yeager of Stanley-Boyd in the first-place match, by fall (1:13).
Jakob Luchterhand (165) was the champion of his weight class. He received a bye in the quarterfinal. He then defeated Isabella Giza of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the semifinal (fall 0:56) and Mason Tomesh of Regis/Altoona in the first-place match, by technical fall, 15-0, in 4:43.
Dane Luchterhand (175) also finished at the top of his weight class. He defeated Jonah Christopherson of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the quarterfinal, by fall (1:16). He then defeated Jacob Hopper of Abbotsford/ Colby in the semifinal, by 3-1 decision. He finished by defeated Caden Kingston of Cadott in the first-place match, by 5-2 decision.
Chase Lindner (106) took second place. He defeated McKenzie Simonson of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound by fall (3:44) in the semifinal, but lost to Iszy Sonnentag of Cadott in the first-place match (fall 4:22).
Jackson Meyer (285) took second place. He received a bye in the quarterfinal. In the semifinal, he defeated Wyatt Wulff of Thorp/Owen-Withee by fall (2:39). Then he lost to Willy Graham of Stanley-Boyd in the first-place match, by 7-3 decision.
Rydge Tibbett (120) earned third place. He defeated Gavin Andrew of Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton by fall (0:40) in the quarterfinal, but lost to Zeke Anderson of Bloomer/Colfax in the semifinal by 7-2 decision. In the consolation semifinal, we won over Landon Miller of Regis/Altoona by fall (0:54). He also defeated Andrew again in the third-place match, by fall (0:54).
Gavyn McFarlane (157) took third place. He defeated Carson Kibbel of Spencer/Columbus Catholic/Granton by fall (0:59) in the quarterfinal. He lost to Brandon Myher of Regis/Altoona in the semifinal (fall 3:36). But he came back and won over Dyllon Zwiefelhofer of Bloomer/ Colfax by fall (3:18) in the consolation semifinal, and also defeated Brodric Westrom of Stanley-Boyd in the thirdplace match by fall (2:57).
Evan Kautzer (144) had a fourth-place finish. He pinned Drew Lang of Spencer/Columbus Catholic/ Granton in 4:51 in the quarterfinal. He lost to Jackson Wesner of Regis/Altoona by fall (1:35) in the semifinal. In the consolation semifinal, he defeated Miles Lueck of Bloomer/Colfax by fall (3:41). However, he lost to Jon Phelps of Cadott in the third-place match (fall 5:24).
Damian Sampson (190) also ended in fourth place. He lost to Mitchell Reineke of Cadott in the quarterfinal, by fall (3:11). He then defeated Brady Mathison of McDonell Catholic/Elk Mound in the first consolation round (fall 1:34) and Jakob Soback of Spencer/Columbus Catholic/ Granton in the consolation semifinal (fall 0:43). He lost to Mitchell Reineke of Cadott in the third-place match by 9-2 decision.
Josh Reis (126) had a couple of losses. In the quarterfi nal, he lost to Steven Williams of Thorp/Owen-Withee by fall (3:35). He received a bye in the first consolation round. In the consolation semifinal, he lost to Alix Colby of Abbotsford/Colby by fall (1:51). He then received a bye for the fifth-place match.
