SPASH gets the sweep in Medford’s curling home finale

The Medford Area Senior High School curling teams hosted Stevens Point in the final home match of the year on Tuesday.
Both the boys and the girls teams played well overall, but were simply outmatched by the perennial powerhouse teams from Stevens Point. Both Medford teams played short-handed with girls skip Cadyn Zenner and boys third Nathan Willman out sick.
The boys shook after six ends with the score at 9-1. The Medford boys got on the scoreboard in the third end. The game came down to shot accuracy as Stevens Point made more of their shots compared to Medford.
On the girls side, Medford conceded after seven ends with the score at 8-2. Medford picked up points in the first and third ends. While the team had opportunities and left each end with rocks in the house, Stevens Point was able to draw in for key shots to put up points.
Medford’s scheduled trip to Waupaca on Jan. 30 was canceled.
The Medford teams travel to Marshfield today, Thursday, to play the host Tigers before closing out the regular season on Feb. 8 at Wausau West.
