Cadott scores host of first place finishes at home invite

The Cadott wrestling programs are ramping up their success, as they had a strenuous schedule over the week.
Jan. 4 Spencer-Columbus Catholic Granton (W 63-6)
The week began for the Hornets, with an away match against Spencer, where Cadott’s team dominated the competition.
Senior Nick Goettl (138 pounds) started off the winning, taking his match over Drew Lang, in a 9-7 decision. Freshman Jon Phelps (157) also picked up a win, by fall, in 3:51, over Carson Kibbel, while sophomore Mitchell Reinke (190) got the win over Jakob Soback, in just 34 seconds. Also winning, was senior Axel Tegels (215), over Wyatt Karl, in a 3:04 fall, along with junior Kaleb Lodahl (120), over Gavin Andrew, by fall, in 1:45.
Receiving forfeit wins, to give the Hornets the 63-6 victory, were sophomore Monte Lodahl (132); freshmen Brenton Faber (144) and Owen Fasbender (150); senior Caden Kingston (175); sophomore Iszy Sonnentag (106); and freshman Garrett Engel (126).
Jan. 6 Home Invitational
Two days later, Cadott played host to a multitude of schools, all looking to unseat the Hornets. During the day, Cadott saw five of the grapplers earn first place.
Phelps earned a spot to the title match win a win over Westfield’s Rueben Hall, in a 3:16 fall, then claimed the championship win, over Cumberland’s Nelson Vasquez, by fall, in 5:15. Kingston also took first, with a win over DauTre Allen, Cumberland, in a 15-5 major decision, while Tegels captured his win over Hayward’s Bradey Gottwald, in a 6-1 decision.
K. Lodahl took second place for the Hornets, dropping the title match to Cumberland’s Noah Hile, by a 7-2 decision. Faber finished in fourth.
On the girls’ side, sophomore Iszy Sonnentag and freshman Tessa York earned first place, while seniors Makenna Harel and Alaina Kempen took fifth and sixth, respectively.
“They’ve been getting better each and every week, and the big thing is, they’re gaining confidence,” said Cadott coach Josh Spaeth. “I’m really happy with the progress.”
