The Neillsville-Greenwood-Loyal (NGL) wrestling team traveled to River Falls for the Northern Badger Wrestling Classic last Thursday and Friday while on Christmas break. Results were as follows.

Place winners Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt (150 pounds) took third place. He defeated Sander King of Black River Falls by fall (0:48) in the first championship round. He then defeated Cayden Paulson of Clear Lake by 11-4 decision in the second championship round. In the quarterfinals, he lost to James Buckholtz of Hayward/Northwood by fall (1:13). He won the fourth and fifth consolation rounds by defeating Graiden Monicker of Baldwin Woodville (fall 2:03) and Nolan Thomley of Prescott (4-2 decision). He also won the consolation semifinals against Alex Hoff of Saint Croix Falls by 6-2 decision. Finally, he defeated Phillips wrestler Daniel Adomaitis by 4-1 decision in the third-place match.

Jakob Luchterhand (165) took seventh place. He defeated Tommy Howard of Lakeland/Mercer in the first championship round by fall (1:35) and defeated Mason Tomesh of Regis/Altoona in the second championship round by fall (3:37). He lost to Connor Melton of Spooner/ Webster in the quarterfinal by 13-1 major decision. He won over Reed McCain of Marathon by 5-0 decision in the fourth consolation round, but lost to Jack Owens of Cumberland in the fifth consolation round by major decision, 10-2.

Dane Luchterhand (175), brother of Jakob, also took seventh. He defeated Gregory Morgan of Chequamegon by fall (1:04) in the first championship round and Eli Prokop of Saint Croix Falls by fall (3:02) in the second championship round. In the quarterfinals, he lost to Lucas D’Jock of Luck/Frederic/Grantsburg/Siren by tie breaker, 2-1. He won against Jack Ross of Unity in the fourth consolation round by sudden victory, 3-1. He lost to Steele Schaefer of Menomonie by 7-1 decision in the fifth consolation round. In the seventh-place match, he defeated Matheo Ngbemeneh of Somerset by 6-1 decision.

Rydge Tibbett (113) took 11th place. He defeated Boaz Wright of Northwestern High School in the first championship round by fall (1:56), but lost in the second championship round to Brayten Casey of Menomonie. In the consolation rounds, Tibbett defeated Isaiah Kraft of Edgar by fall (4:18) and Rony Ramos of Boyceville by 8-3 decision, but lost to Carson Wright of Ellsworth by 3-2 decision and Cillian O’Connell of Regis/Altoona by 8-1 decision. He won over Dylan Miller of Hayward/ Northwood by 8-1 decision in the 11th-place match.

Other results Chase Lindner (106) lost to Seth Corrigan of De Pere in the first championship round by 6-5 decision. In the second consolation round, he won over Ony Zaragoza of Arcadia by fall (1:30). In the third consolation round, he lost to Dallas Herdahl of Boyceville by fall (1:46).

Gavyn McFarlane (157) picked up wins against DMarqos Youngthunder of Black River Falls by fall (1:26) in the first championship round and against Hunter Halverson of Ellsworth in the second consolation round, also by fall (1:30). However, he lost to Troy Duellman of Cornell/Gilman/ Lake Holcombe in the second championship round by fall (0:48) and to Brock Swenson of Saint Croix Central by fall (0:50) in the third consolation round.

Jackson Meyer (285) won over Esaube Brown of Lakeland/Mercer by fall (1:02) in the first championship round. He then lost to Lincoln McCarty of River Falls in the second championship round, by decision, 8-2. He defeated Garrik Block of Cameron by fall (2:18) in the second consolation round and lost to Luis Nava Rojas of Abbotsford/Colby in the third consolation round by decision, 4-0.

Josh Reis (120) lost to Kaleb Lodahl of Cadott in the first championship round by fall (1:09) and lost to Gavin Ricke of Ellsworth in the first consolation round by fall (2:32).

Adam Kautzer (132) lost to Jonas Longsdorf of River Falls by fall (2:29) in the first championship round and to Brady Valentine of Barron by 5-2 decision in the first consolation round.

Jerome Buchanan (138) lost by fall (2:38) to Brady Bock of Freedom and by fall (0:51) to Landyn Leslie of Boyceville.

Evan Kautzer (144) lost in the first championship round to Maverick Kostrzak of Saint Croix Central by fall (1:34). He also lost to Zeb Holden of Glenwood City in the first consolation round by fall (4:30).

Damian Sampson (190) lost to Maximus Elliott of Shell Lake in the first championship round and Erik Martinez of Abbotsford/Colby in the first consolation round. He lost to Elliott by fall (1:49) and to Martinez by fall as well, in 4:49.
