The girls basketball program is on a roll at Lake Holcombe, after winning both games over East Lakeland Conference opponents.
Dec. 19 vs. Clayton conference (W 57-55)
First up on the week, the Chieftains headed to Clayton, for a battle with the Bears. Despite being down by seven points at halftime, Lake Holcombe came storming back to outscore the home team.
It was a close one, but the Chieftains pulled it out, with a 57-55 victory.
Senior Emma Lechleitner led for Lake Holcombe, notching 24 points, with freshman Katya Kuc following that with 13. Freshman Payton Birkenholz came next, with 11 points, while junior Abby Jones had 5 points on the night.
Junior Chloe Lee and sophomore Alexia Hoffman each chipped in with 2 points.
Dec. 21 vs. Bruce conference (W 57-31)
A couple days later, Bruce paid a visit to the Chieftains, but they left their offense at home, as Lake Holcombe ran circles around the Raiders. The Chieftains outscored Bruce by 22 points in just the first half and while the Raiders were more prepared in the second part of the game, the victory still belonged to Lake Holcombe, 57-31, improving their overall record to 5-4.
“It was nice to get a game where we could get everyone the chance to get in there,” said coach Chris Clark. And everyone on the floor played well and made the most of their opportunity.”
Lechleitner again led, with 21 points, while Birkenholz scored 13 and Jones was right behind, with 12. Kuc and freshman Maria Andres each added 5 points to the mix, and Hoffner shot a free throw for 1 point.
“Now, we are 3-1 in conference, near the top, where we want to be,” said Clark.
