Hornets drop week’s games

Cadott’s girls basketball program saw some tough action over the week, facing off league opponents.
Dec. 19 vs. McDonell conference (L 93-34)
The Hornets traveled to McDonell, to begin the week, where scoring was at a premium. Cadott was outscored by 45 points in just the first half and, while their defense held the Macks to only 33pointsinthesecondhalf,thegamewould still go to McDonelll, 93-34.
““Tuesday’s game was a pretty tough test, against a top-ranked team in the state,” said coach Dave Hazuga.
Leading for Cadott, was senior Emma Kowalczyk, with 11 points, followed by junior Kasey Moldrem, with 6, and sophomore Taylor Hager, with 5. Sophomores Lilly Spaeth and Kennedy Nerdrum each added 3 points, and senior Bradee Burish, junior McKenna Steinke and sophomore Danielle Sikora all chipped in with 2.
“We are trying to develop and grow as a new team this year,” said Hazuga. “The girls are taking on challenges and that will lead to improvement.”
Dec. 22 vs. Regis conference (L 74-51)
To finish out the week, the Hornets hosted Regis, in a battle for the victory.
The Ramblers took a 16-point lead into the break, but Cadott came charging back to almost match Regis, point for point in the second half. It wouldn’t be enough and the visitors went home with a 74-51 win.
Hager knocked in four baskets from three-point land, ending with 15 points, followed by Kowalczyk, with 9 points. Sikora was right behind, with 8, while Spaeth hit two shots from beyond the arc, for 6 points and Nerdrum came away with 5 points.
Moldrem and junior Tarynn Donahue each hit a three, while Burish added 2 points.
Cadott’s overall record is now 6-5 and they sit at 1-4 in the West Cloverbelt Conference.
