A new twist to this year’s Edgar varsity boys basketball season is that the team has co-head coaches for the first time in school history. Edgar boys basketball alums Zach Paul and Chris Trawicki are the new Wildcats co-head coaches this season.

Together they answered a question about their previous coaching experience before this season: “Chris has coached in the Edgar program for 12 years, with the past two years at the high school level. We both felt that we work well together and can bring good things to the team together. We have coached football together in Edgar’s program for the past eight years so we know that we can work together. Our assistant coaches this year are Adam Decker as the JV coach and Mitch Skurzewski as the JV2 coach.”

season. Huss tallied a 155-91 record during his 10 years as Edgar’s varsity head boys basketball coach. Huss also guided Edgar to the 2021 state tournament.

In order for a team to be successful with co-head coaches, both of them need to be in sync with each other’s way of thinking. Together they answered this question: “We are figuring it out as we go. We both have the same expectations for the team and our coaching styles and philosophies line up and compliment each other. We trust the other guy to make a decision and go with it, but we will certainly be in constant communication through the course of each game.”

Edgar’s top returning varsity boys basketball players are senior guards Teegan Streit and Karter Butt; senior forwards Brett Baumgartner, Marcus Huehnerfuss, Kohlbe Weisenberger and Preston Dahlke and junior guard Leyton Schuett.

The Wildcats’ top newcomers to this year’s varsity squad are junior guard Brock Mauer, junior forwards Ty Schnelle and Isaac Halama and sophomore guards Tucker Streit and Gavin Mauer.

Co-head coaches Paul and Trawicki together answered a question about what the team’s goals are this season and how they can maintain the program’s success that Huss enjoyed during his head coaching tenure in Edgar: “Our main goal is to compete every night and get better throughout the season. We know that the Marawood South is a very tough league every year so we will need to be ready to play every night. We believe with the experience we have returning that we can be very competitive and continue building on the solid foundation that is in place for us.”

Edgar currently has a 3-2 record this season. The Wildcats won their first three games and have now lost two straight games.
