Tridents drop seconds off each event they’re part of

Splitting the matches over the week, the Lake Holcombe- Ladysmith-Flambeau-Bruce-Bloomer Trident Swim team moved to 5-2, as they near the end of their regular dual meet season.

Sept. 28 vs. Medford

First up for the Tridents, was a meet at Medford, where the squad suffered a loss to the home team.

“…The girls battled hard, but did not have the depth needed to secure a win,” said coach Matt Bunton.

Oct. 5 vs. Tomahawk

The following week, the Tridents hosted Tomahawk, with many personal best swims.

In the 200-yard freestyle, freshman Sidney Heath dropped another 5 seconds, to swim a 2:35.88.

“So far this season, Sidney has dropped 15 seconds in this event,” said Bunton.

In the 200-yard individual medley, junior Hannah Minton dropped 3 seconds, to swim a personal best time of 2:32.68. In the 50-yard freestyle, sophomore Willow Peterson dropped 2 more seconds, to hit the wall in 36.05.

“Willow has dropped 6 seconds in this event, in just her first year of competitive swimming,” said Bunton.

Fellow first-year swimmer Ella Burr also swam her first competitive event at the meet, just two weeks after joining the team. Rounding out the effort by the first-year swimmers, sophomore Kiara Howard dropped another 2 seconds in her 100-yard freestyle time, with a new personal best of 1:29.09.

“Kiara has dropped just over 10 seconds in this event, over the course of the season,” said Bunton.

The Tridents’ seasoned veterans also had a great night, with junior Alyxandria Lunemann swimming a new personal best of 6:20.11, in the 500-yard freestyle. Freshman Nayeli Schilling also hit a new personal best time of 6:28.44, in the same event.

“Our team swam well tonight, and bounced back from last week’s Medford meet,” said Bunton.

The home meet also was a time to celebrate senior Madi Kempen.

“Madi has been an excellent captain for her team this year – a quiet, confident leader, Madi sets the bar for how our team approaches practices and competitions, and her teammates continually look up to her,” said Bunton. “She is certainly going to be missed this next season, but she has a bright future in front of her.”
