The short distance to Thorp was well worth it Oct. 5, as the girls team placed first in the cross country meet for Cadott.
“[The] girls were missing two of the top four runners and still came away in first place,” said coach Tom Weiss.
Placing at the top for Cadott, was senior Jaycee Stephens, for third, in a time of 22:19.1, followed by junior Lyla Weggen, in sixth place (23:39), and junior Cortney Weggen right behind in seventh (23:43.8). Junior Mia Weggen followed that up with 11th place (25:41.8) and junior Adrianna Goodman was 16th (27:03.9).
Sophomore Lexi Bremness finished 20th for Cadott (28:03.3), while senior Alaina Kempen rounded out the girls side with 24th place (36:17).
For the boys, the team took third place.
“[The] boys ran extremely well,” said Weiss.
Coming in at the top for the Hornets, was sophomore Saibyn Will, in 10th (18:54.6), with freshman Beau Steinke right behind in 12th (19:09.3). Freshman Jon Phelps followed that with a 20th place finish (20:16.2), while freshman Garrett Engel was 28th (20:59) and junior Ewan Weir placed 29th (21:00.1).
Next up, was sophomore Zach Kroeplin, in 32nd (21:07.8), with senior Eli Burich in 34th place (21:17.2), while freshman Kaden Roen ended in 36th (21:31.8). Senior Sage Handrick was just a step behind, for 37th (21:36), while sophomore Gryphen Lindeman was 39th (22:05).
Freshman Klay Handrick finished in 48th (22:55.1), with senior Braden Denzine in 50th (23:22) and freshman Max Demulling was 53rd (24:38.6).
“Several set either season best times or personal records,” said Weiss.
