Rib Lake gets much-needed volleyball win at Chequamegon
RIB LAKE VOLLEYBALL
The Rib Lake volleyball team got a much-needed win Tuesday with a 3-0 sweep at Chequamegon to conclude Marawood North play for the season.
The Lady Redmen broke a 1-17 skid with Tuesday’s win that clinched fifth place in the North Division ahead of the 0-6 Screaming Eagles. Rib Lake finished 1-4 in league play for the fifth straight season, not including the Covid season of 2020.
Rib Lake won the three sets 25-14, 2517 and 25-15.
“With slow starts in each set, we were still able to pull out nice wins in each one,” Rib Lake head coach Heather Weik said. “I’m glad we kept battling when we did. This was a feel-good match as we were able to play a variety of players. It is a nice confidence boost as we approach the post-season.”
Jennis Pichea was Rib Lake’s kill leader with 14 and she had two solo blocks, while Camryn Glenzer had seven kills and Tessa Weik had six. Weik had 22 assists in the match.
Coralee Glenzer had six of Rib Lake’s nine service aces. Tahlia Scheithauer had the other three. Scheithauer also had 14 digs. Camryn Glenzer had eight digs, Coralee Glenzer had seven and Isabella Fallos had six.
Now 7-22 overall, Rib Lake will look for a second straight win tonight, Thursday, in a non-conference match at Northland Lutheran. The team will be at the Edgar Invitational Saturday with Abbotsford, Auburndale, Bruce and Colby. That starts at 9 a.m.
The Marawood Conference Crossover challenge is set for Tuesday at Marathon High School. It appears Rib Lake will play Edgar in the fifth-place match at 4 p.m.
The regular season will conclude Oct. 14 with a home triangular against Spencer and Ladysmith.
