LG boys win Edgar meet, 4 athletes crack top 10
Warriors’ Drinka makes top 10
The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) cross country team had a satisfying run at Edgar High School Sept. 26, with the boys claiming first place as a team, aided by individual first- and fifth-place finishes, and the girls seeing two runners make it into the top 10.
LG’s Connor Genteman won the boys’ race with a time of 17:33.9, good for a 5:39 mile. He was nearly 19 seconds ahead of the next fastest runner. Also for LG, Bryce Deegan placed fifth out of 48 competitors, with a time of 18:41.4, equal to a 6:01 mile pace.
On the girls’ side, LG’s Summer Smith dashed into third place out of 36 runners, with a time of 22:27.3, equal to a 7:14 mile. Bailey Eckes came in eighth, with a time of 23:54.8. Gwen LaMarr took 13th place at 24:54.2.
Other LG male finishers included Lucas Nielsen, who claimed 13th place at 20:01.1; Cody Eckes, who took 19th at 21:08.6; and Ridge Ashbeck and Wyatt Mulvaney, who took 28th and 29th place, respectively, with times of 22:25 and 22:25.2.
“Overall, it was a good meet for our team. The conditions were good considering the rain that came in throughout the several days prior. The course was in great condition,” wrote LG coach Hannah Olson in an email. “Although we didn’t see our fastest times, all our runners went out and competed hard. Even for the girls, to have all three of our runners in the top 15 demonstrates their desire to work hard and fight for each place.”
With their high individual placings, the LG boys claimed the top spot on the leaderboard, taking first place among the teams with a score of 66. Other team scores were Westfield 77, Mosinee 94, Owen-Withee 96, Pittsville 111, Neillsville 133, Edgar 136 and Columbus Catholic 148.
The LG girls did not have enough finishers to register a team score.
Neillsville-Granton The Neillsville-Granton (NG) boys’ results were as follows: Will Drinka took eighth with a time of 19:08.8, Hunter Schultz came in 15th with a time of 20:03.9, Jeremmiah Dorshorst took 26th at 21:56.3, Claiton Anderson Ruskin was 40th at 24:25, Koltin Luchterhand took 44th at 25:58.4 and Grant Slone placed 47th at 27:58.5.
The NG boys placed sixth out of eight teams while the girls team took fourth out of four teams.
For the NG girls, Klarissa Canfield took the lead, placing 22nd at 26:49.7. Haylee Schultz was next, taking 26th place at 28:00.3, and Margaret Canfield was right behind her, finishing 27th at 28:10.5. Soon after, Savannah Dorshorst crossed the finish line, in 29th place at 29:58. Then came Hannah Dorshorst, who took 36th at 34:12.8.
