Cadott runners give their all, against strong teams
By Ginna Young
As the season goes on, strength and conditioning come into play for the Cad0tt cross country team.
Sept. 19 Home Meet
Hosting a myriad of other teams, Cadott was well familiar with the course at Whispering Pines, but couldn’t capture the top spot.
“Both teams ran very well, but there were teams that are very good,” said coach Tom Weiss.
Sophomore Iszy Sonnentag notched top honors for the girls, with a 16th place finish, for a time of 22:29.93. Senior Jaycee Stephens followed that up with 34th place (23:28.49), while junior Lyla Weggen came next for 37th (23:45.08). Sophomore Josi Roth then placed 47th (24:27.47) and junior Cortney Weggen was 52nd (24:54.53) for the Hornets.
On the boys side of things, sophomore Saibyn Will came in 23rd (19:18.52), while freshman Jon Phelps was 42nd (20:32.23). Freshman Garrett Engel was a little behind that, for 53rd (21:02.26), followed by junior Ewan Weir for 60th (21:22.12) and freshman Kaden Roen finished in 65th place (21:41.89).
“Four freshman boys set personal season bests,” said Weiss.
Sept. 21 Barron Meet
Only two days later, the Hornets were on the road to Barron, where the busy schedule helped play a factor in their performance.
“Both teams were tired,” said Weiss. Stephens took top honors for the girls, by coming in 23rd (23:26.41), followed by Sonnentag, for 28th (23:51.52). L. Weggen took 36th for the Hornets (24:48.99), while Roth was 38th (25:08.49) and C. Weggen was 40th (25:19.37).
For the boys, Will claimed the fastest finish, in 25th (19:55.08), while freshman Beau Steinke was 34th (20:40.62). Phelps came next, with 39th (21:00.98), followed by Weir, for 47th (21:27.95), and Engel, with 65th place (22:22.73).
“The girls and boys did well against some good competition, on a very difficult course,” said Weiss. “Course was scenic, wooded trails, but very, very hilly.”
