Genteman takes 3rd at Cadott
The Loyal-Greenwood (LG) cross country team put in some extra miles when they ran at Whispering Pines Golf Course in the Cadott Invitational Sept. 19.
“Overall, this was the fourth meet our high schoolers have run in the past 11 days, and fatigue caught up to them. I didn’t have high expectations going into this meet, but I wanted to see how they might compete on tired legs,” wrote coach Hannah Olson in an email.
Indeed, whether it was due to fatigue or a more difficult course, most of the runners finished a minute or more slower than their previous race in Marshfield. One exception was Connor Genteman, who placed third in the boys’ 5,000-meter race with a time of 17:20.68, comparable to his previous time of 17:14.87.
Other LG boys’ times were as follows. Bryce Deegan took 19th place out of the 139 runners with a time of 19:02.44. Lucas Nielsen came in 51st at 20:59.17. Cody Eckes finished in 78th at 22:32.83. Ridge Ashbeck placed 91st at 23:16.54. Wyatt Mulvaney was close behind, in 99th place at 23:47.44. As a team, the LG boys tied with Stanley-Boyd for sixth place with 198 points. The other team scores were: McDonell Central 43, Glenwood City 121, Cameron 131, Immanuel Lutheran 144, Colby-Abbotsford 145, Cadott 207, Owen-Withee 233, Fall Creek 237, Regis 270, New Auburn 293, Thorp 301 and Boyceville 309. In the girls’ race, Summer Smith of LG claimed 31st place out of 104 runners with a time of 23:15.38. Teammate Bailey Eckes took 50th place at 24:49.49, and teammate Gwen LaMarr took 66th at 26:08.93. The girls did not have enough finishers to register a team score.
