Spencer-Columbus takes loss to Weyauwega Fremont
The Spencer-Columbus (SC) varsity team could not match Weyauwega-Fremont’s (WF) scoring output in a recent competition on the football field.
The Sept. 15 away game began with WF picking up two touchdowns in the first quarter, both off of running plays. In the second frame, WF scored another touchdown from a 22-yard pass.
Although they may have looked untouchable, the Warhawks were still subject to mistakes, which the Rockets capitalized upon. Midway through the second, SC’s Mac Konieczny picked a WF fumble and ran it 45 yards for a touchdown to put the Rockets on the board. Unfortunately, WF scored twice more before the quarter was done, leaving at the score at 35-6 at the half.
In the third quarter, the Rockets hit pay dirt again when Logan Ehlert ran 20 yards into the end zone. They punched it in again with a two-point conversion. That would be the last time SC would score for the game. The Warhawks picked up a few more touchdowns, however, leaving the final score at 55-14 for the WF win.
Teddy Meyer was SC’s leading passer. He threw for 40 yards. Landon Behselich was the leading rusher with 43 yards. Konieczny had 30 rushing yards, Cal Birkhauser had 29 and Logan Ehlert had 25. Konieczny also completed one reception for 20 yards.
Meyer, Besehlich and Brody Casperson were their team’s leading tacklers with four apiece. Ehlert and Konieczny each had three.
With the completion of this game, SC had four games left in the regular season, with the last one being Oct. 13 at home versus Stratford.
