It was a great meet for the Cadott cross country program Sept. 7, as they headed the short distance to Stanley- Boyd’s course. The girls team took top honors, placing first out of the five complete teams.
“[The] entire team is returned from last year’s squad, and each one bested their time from last year,” said coach Tom Weiss. “Experience should reap some positive results in the upcoming races.”
Taking third place for the girls, was sophomore Iszy Sonnentag, in a time of 22:29.6, with senior Jaycee Stephens right behind her, in fifth (22:59.3). Junior Lyla Weggen came next, finishing in 13th (24:51.6), while junior Cortney Weggen was right on her heels in 14th (24:52.4) and sophomore Josie Roth crossed the finish line in 15th place (24:54.1).
Junior Mia Wegen came next for 19th (26:14.9), with junior Adrianna Goodman ending in 22nd place (26:38.3) and sophomore Lexi Bremness in 28th (28:14.8). Senior Alaina Kempen rounded out the girls squad for 47th (39:35.3).
On the boys side, the team placed fourth out of eight schools, while individually, sophomore Saibyn Will and freshman Beau Steinke placed 17th and 18th, respectively, for times of 19:43.8 and 19:44.6. Freshman Jon Phelps was a few steps behind, ending in 26th (21:20.9), followed by junior Ewan Weir in 28th (21:44.5).
Freshman Garrett Engel was next, for 31st (21:48.8), while freshman Kaden Roen was just a few seconds behind for 32 (21:59.2) and sophomore Zach Kroeplin was 33rd (22:08.9). Senior Eli Burich finished the day in 42nd (22:57.2) and sophomore Gryphen Lindeman crossed the line in 23:38.6, for 46th place.
Finishing next, was freshman Klay Handrick, in 53rd (24:01.5), while senior Braden Denzine was 57th (24:30.1) and senior Sage Handrick ended in 60th (24:53.2). Freshman Max Demulling then placed 65th (27:30.1) to finish out the scoring for the boys team.
“Boys are doing very well for a young team…I am sure there will be some up and downs throughout the season, but they are fun to coach,” said Weiss.
