The Colby-Abbotsford swim team improved to 2-0 in the conference after defeating Mosinee 90-70 in their second dual of the season last Thursday.

Brezlyn Boyer and Madisyn Schraufnagel helped lead the co-op to the victory, recording three wins each.They finished with eight wins out of the 11 events, with the beginning of the meet setting the tone for the Colby-Abby squad. In their extremely strong first half of the meet, the co-op won the first five events and took the top two spots in two of those contests.

The relay of Schraufnagel, Sage Lueth, Jordan Jakel and Chloe Cihlar started off the string of victories in the 200-yard medley, putting up a time of 2:07.54 to easily take the event, with Mosinee’s top relay coming in 15 seconds later.

Boyer followed up with another dominant win for Colby-Abby, defeating Mosinee’s Morgan Hoernke by over 20 seconds in the 200-yard freestyle, posting a time of 2:13.90.

Schraufnagel and Jakel went first and second in the 200-yard IM and Cihlar and Zeline Lintrup added another one-two finish for the co-op in the 50-yard freestyle to round out the first section of the meet. Schraufnagel finished with a time of 2:23.50 in her second win of the day and Jakel followed her teammate with a time of 2:41.22. Meanwhile, Cihlar and Lintrup finished with times of 26.39 seconds and 29.18 respectively in their event.

Following the break, Jakel came up with her second win in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:09.40. Also picking up wins as individuals in the second half were Schraufnagel in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:05.13 and Boyer in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.28.

The 200-yard freestyle relay of Brezlyn and Bryleigh Boyer, McKinley Meyer and Olivia Krause also won with a time of 2:06.55.

Other second place finishes included Krause in the 100-yard freestyle, where she posted a time of 1:10.49, Cihlar in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:12.99 and Lueth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:34.08. The relay of Jakel, Meyer, Cihlar and Rayna Hamus also picked up a second place finish in the final event of the afternoon, putting up a time of 4:43.31 in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Of the six individual event winners, five posted faster times than the week before at Lakeland, an indication of a rounding into form for the team.

They will look to continue their undefeated season on Thursday with a trip to Antigo. The Red Robins are 0-2 thus far in 2023 and are coming off a 94-54 loss to Tomahawk. Last season, the co-op came out on top in the matchup, defeating Antigo 86-65 to improve to 3-0 on the season and they will be looking to follow a similar path this year. The meet is set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
