Chieftains have some great things happening early on

It wasn’t easy going for the first matches this season, as the Lake Holcombe volleyball squad traveled to Boyceville, for a tough quad against non-league teams.
Aug. 24 vs. Spring Valley non-conference (L 2-0)
Spring Valley was the first opponent the Chieftains needed to get through, but the offense wasn’t there, and Lake Holcombe dropped the sets, 25-14 and 25-8.
Aug. 24 vs. South Shore non-conference (L 2-1)
The Chieftains then went up against a very tough South Shore team, claiming the first set in a 25-23 win. The second set was even more exciting, as the Chieftains were matched, point for point, but South Shore managed to squeak out a win, 33-31.
Lake Holcombe had one more chance to reel in the victory, but South Shore wouldn’t be denied, and took the third and final set, 15-8.
“I was very proud of the girls in their play against South Shore,” said coach Beth Meddaugh. “That was a grueling match and the players kept going, despite the heat, to almost take the match several times, only to lose the second set, 3331.”

Finally, the Chieftains faced off with host team Boyceville, dropping the sets, 25-23 and 25-12.
Leading with digs for the night, was senior Ella Hartzell, with 30, followed by seniors Emma Lechleitner and Ava Story, who each had 14. Junior Chloe Lee led with 18 assists and Hartzell notched 9 ace serves.
“The team worked really hard at the quad and there were some great things happening on the court,” said Meddaugh. “We also have a better idea of what we need to work on, which is why we attend the quad and play these bigger teams.”
