Seedings and pairings are set for the post-season baseball championship tournament in the Dairyland League’s Small Division.

The division’s eight area teams, who separated from the Wisconsin Baseball Association (WBA) this season, will compete in the single-elimination tournament Aug. 11-13. The tournament will once again bring a full weekend of baseball to Rib Lake that coincides with the village’s Ice Age Days celebration, something that hasn’t happened since the last WBA semifinal weekend held at Tannery Creek Parkway in 2019.

Seedings were determined through a round-robin schedule in June and July. Westboro earned the top seed by going 6-1. Interwald and Rib Lake both finished 4-2 with Interwald being granted the top seed. Those teams played to a 1-1 tie in a game that was suspended in the ninth inning due to heavy rain on July 3.

Rib Lake’s 15-5 win at Abbotsford to close the regular season on Sunday significantly impacted the final standings. Abbotsford, the only team to beat Westboro, started the day still holding hope of getting the one seed. Instead, the Merchants tumbled to the sixth seed at 4-3, losing head-to-head tiebreakers with Pittsville and Tomahawk. Abbotsford will face Rib Lake again in a quarterfinal rematch on Aug. 12.

Medford (1-6) and Spirit (0-7) are the seventh and eighth seeds.

Full concessions will be available throughout the tournament. Play starts with Tomahawk facing Pittsville in the Friday opener at 7:30 p.m. All three quarterfinals on Saturday will feature local squads with the first game starting at 10 a.m.

The semifinals are set for 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sunday, followed by the championship at 4 p.m.

Interwald catcher Jackson Blomberg gets a relay throw from shortstop Dalton Strebig and gets ready to tag out Westboro’s Tucker Kraemer at home plate in top of Sunday’s seventh inning. One run already scored on the play, a single by Marshall Westfall.MATT FREY/THE STAR NEWS
