Tallier’s historic meet, efforts by Angell and Drier earn awards

Gilman’s Gracie Tallier had a historic performance earning All-Eastern Cloverbelt Conference championships in four events at the conference meet the Pirates hosted on May 16.
Teammates Bailey Angell and Claire Drier also added conference awards with their top-two finishes during the meet.
Tallier’s All-Eastern Cloverbelt Conference recognition came in the 100-, 200and 400-meter dashes as well as the long jump. She set the conference’s 100-meter record with her winning time of 12.69 seconds in the final, beating runner-up Addysen Wolf of Loyal by 0.31 seconds.
In the 200-meter dash, Tallier won in 26.81 seconds, again beating Wolf, this time by 0.3 seconds. Both Tallier and Wolf wound up qualifying for the WIAA Division 3 state meet in the 200 with Wolf finishing eighth in the final at 26.11 seconds and Tallier placing 11th in the preliminaries at 26.61 seconds.
Tallier placed eighth at state in the 100-meter dash, finishing the final in 12.88 seconds.
In the conference’s 400-meter dash, Tallier won in 1:02.21, beating Wolf by 0.55 seconds. Tallier captured the long jump to complete the rare four-championship feat with a leap of 16 feet, 2.25 inches, 2 inches better than Owen-Withee’s Kendall Weiler. Drier was third for Gilman at 15-2.5.
Tallier, who plans to compete in volleyball at UW-River Falls, was a threetime champion and was part of a winning relay team in the 2021 Eastern Cloverbelt meet.
Angell, a junior, won a repeat conference championship in the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 10 inches. She had a winning margin of almost 2 feet over Colby’s Daelyn Rieck. Angell added a secondplace award in the discus at 104 feet, 3 inches, exactly a foot behind Rieck.
Angell finished her year at the state shot put competition, where she placed ninth at 36-7.25.
Drier got second- place conference awards in both hurdles races. In the 100-meter high hurdles, Drier set a personal-record with her time of 17.49 seconds. She was 0.41 seconds behind champion Hayden Willner of Colby. In the 300-meter hurdles, Drier finished in 50.25 seconds to finish 0.33 seconds behind Willner. Drier went on to qualify for the sectional meet in Cameron in the event, where she set a personal-record time of 49.24 seconds.
Gilman’s girls finished fourth in the nine-team conference meet with 82 points, trailing Loyal (192.5), Colby (157) and Neillsville (89). Gilman’s boys were eighth with 14 points, finishing ahead of Granton (6). Neillsville outscored Owen-Withee 140 to 129.333 to win the championship trophy.
