Tubbs is South Player of the Year
Sophomore is first team allconference again
Stratford sophomore second baseman Jack Tubbs has been selected as an unanimous first team All-Marawood South Conference player in each of his first two years of high school. This season he was also awarded the Marawood South Conference Player of the Year.
While playing 21 games this season, Tubbs achieved a remarkable .515 batting average along with a .609 on-base percentage and .742 slugging percentage. In 66 plate appearances, Tubbs had 34 hits consisting of 23 singles, nine doubles and two home runs. He only struck out five times while walking 18 times. He had 16 RBIs and 16 stolen bases for the Tigers this season.
Stratford juniors Brady Schmidt and Henry Zaleski are unanimous first team all-conference selections for the first time this season.
Marathon juniors Grant Warren and Tyler Underwood are unanimous first team all-Marawood Conference South players for the second straight season. Grant Warren received honorable mention all-conference during his freshman season.
Red Raiders head coach Steve Warren was named the Marawood Conference South Coach of the Year after his team won the conference championship. He also led Marathon to the WIAA Division 3 regional championship win against Stratford. Marathon made it all the way to the sectional championship where it lost to eventual state champion St. Croix Falls.
Edgar sophomore Jase Apfelbeck made the jump from receiving honorable mention all-conference last season to being selected as an unanimous first team all-Marawood Conference South player this season. Apfelbeck was Edgar’s starting pitcher in the team’s 4-3 loss to eventual state champion Ithaca in nine innings during the WIAA Division 4 state semifinal. It was the first time the Wildcats baseball team had played in a state tournament.
Other unanimous first team all-Marawood South Conference baseball players are senior Nick Leberg of Wisconsin Rapids Assumption, junior Caden Weinfurter of Auburndale, sophomore Blake Raab of Auburndale and sophomore Tyler Ackerman of Newman Catholic.
Edgar freshman Lucas Stahnke and sophmore Leyton Schuett were named second team all-Marawood South Conference this season. Marathon senior Daniel LaQua and junior Cooper Hoeksema were also named to the conference’s second team this spring. Stratford seniors Jackson Ormond and Braeden Schueller also received second team all-conference honors.
Other players named second team all-conference are Assumption senior Ryan Shaw, Auburndale senior Ian Brown, Auburndale junior Aden Cherney and Newman Catholic senior Eli Gustafson.
Edgar seniors Justin Davis and Keghan Hartway received honorable mention all-Marawood Conference South this season. Marathon senior Pierson Hamann and freshman True Thurs also received honorable mention allconference as did Stratford senior John Seitz III and sophomore Vance Kielman.
Other players to receive honorable mention all-conference are Assumption junior Nolan Hartman and freshman Walker Livernash, Auburndale senior Sloan Welch and junior Kaden Anderson and Newman Catholic senior Jackson Varline and sophomore Carson Rice.
North All-Conference
Athens senior Kyler Ellenbecker was awarded unanimous first team all-Marawood North Conference this season. He was a second team all-conference player his sophomore and junior years.
Joining Ellenbecker as unanimous Marawood Conference North first team players are Abby/Colby senior Brandon Diedrich and juniors JV Castillo and Evan Reis; Chequamegon junior Nolan Niehoff, Phillips junior Drew Hauschild and Rib Lake senior Michael Borchardt and junior Jackson Blomberg. Abby/Colby senior Mateo Lopez and junior Blake Bargender also received first team all-conference honors without the unanimous distinction.
Athens junior Ty Johnson, sophomore Nick Pittman and freshman Kamden Zarnke were named second team all-Marawood North Conference this season.
Other players earning second team all-conference are Abby/Colby sophomore Payton Schreiber, Chequamegon sophomore Corbyn Phelps, Phillips seniors James and Jesse Bruhn, Prentice freshman Heston Hueckman and Rib Lake freshmen Talon Scheithauer and Ethan Cook.
Athens senior Nathan Wolf and sophomore Kaden Auner received honorable mention all-Marawood North Conference this spring. Other players receiving honorable mention are Abby/Colby juniors Jaxon Polivka and Carlos Lara, Chequamegon senior John Wartgrow and freshman Antonio Poetzl, Prentice senior Nolan Sarkkinen and sophomore Jonas Staroba, Phillips senior John Felch and junior Ethan Podmolik and Rib Lake junior Dominique Quednow and sophomore Andrew Wudi.
Brandon Diedrich of Abby/Colby was awarded the Marawood North Conference Player of the Year and Abby/Colby co-head coaches Ryan Bargender and Brett Nelson received the conference Coach of the Year award.
