Our area will once again be well-represented at the state track and field meet this weekend, as several individuals qualified after placing in the top four in their respective events at the WIAA Division 3 Sectional Meet in Marathon last Thursday.

Loyal results From Loyal, qualifying for state were the following individuals: Alyssia Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Addysen Wolf and Connor Genteman. Alyssia Zvolena placed third in the high jump at 5’4” to qualify. She also made it to state last year in that event. Sheila Tellock won the girls pole vault competition by being the only one to clear the bar at 10’6”. She is another state returner. Freshman Addysen Wolf took second in the 200m dash at 26.71 seconds to punch her ticket to state. Connor Genteman took fourth in the 800m run at 2:02.21 to qualify, after having competed at the state cross country meet this past fall.

Also qualifying for state were Tellock, Wolf, Leah Scherer and Aubre Robida in the 4x100m and 4x200m relays. They won the 4x100m relay at 50.33 and placed second in the 4x200m relay at 1:46.11. The alternates for the 4x200m relay are Alyssia and Molly Zvolena. The 4x100m alternates are Alyssia Zvolena and Hope Peroshek.

Going to state will be a new experience for Wolf, a freshman. The rest of the relay runners have been there before. Tellock, Scherer, Robida and Alyssia Zvolena went to state last year on the 4x100m team, and Tellock, Scherer and Alyssia Zvolena were on last year’s state-qualifying 4x200m team as well.

Other Loyal results were as follows. Robida narrowly missed out on a trip to state in the 100m dash after taking fifth place at 13.31. The fourthplace time was 13.07. Scherer came close as well, finishing fifth in the 200m dash just three-hundredths of a second slower than her closest opponent. Olivia Nikolai placed sixth in the pole vault at 8’, tying with four other girls. Genteman took 10th in the 1600m run at 5:00.31. Wolf and Autumn Zvolena tied for 13th place in the high jump at 4’8”. Shalisha Buchanan placed 11th in the shot put at 31’10.25”.

The Loyal girls placed second at sectionals out of the 37 schools that scored points. The top five point totals were: Shiocton 61.2, Loyal 51.2, Newman Catholic 46, Rosholt 45, Phillips 43 and Valders 43. The Loyal boys were in 31st place out of 35 teams.

Spencer results For Spencer, Breckin Miller qualified for state by placing third in the pole vault at 13’0”. In addition, the boys 4x100m relay team qualified with a time of 44.66. Team members are Elliot Bauer, Landon Behselich, Levi Anderson and Jon Jonas. Those same four lads qualified in the 4x200m relay after placing fourth at 1:34.84. Alternates for the 4x100m are Miller and Logan Ehlert. Alternates for the 4x200m are Miller and Clay Nieman.

Other results for Spencer were as follows. Kyle Nieman came close to advancing to state in the 110m hurdles. He took fifth with a time of 16.49. The fourth-place time was 15.95. Miller took eighth in the 110m hurdles. He had a time of 17.02. Autumn Davis finished eighth in the 400m dash at 1:04.15.

The Spencer girls tied for 36th place among the teams and the Spencer boys took ninth out of 35 teams.

Greenwood results Renaya Horvath qualified for state in two events. She took third in the mixed shot put wheelchair event with a distance of 12’1”. She also took third in the mixed 100m wheelchair race with a time of 27.78.

The WIAA State Track and Field Meet will take place this Friday and Saturday, June 2 and 3, at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex at UW-La Crosse.

Granton results Granton attended a sectional meet in Lancaster and did not have any athletes qualify for state. Alex Gardner took eighth in the 400m dash at 53.82. Lizzy Reinart took 13th in the high jump at 4’8”.

Regionals In order to compete at sectionals, athletes first had to advance through the WIAA Division 3 Regional on May 22. The teams from Loyal, Spencer and Greenwood all competed at Stratford that day, while Granton athletes competed at Luther High School in Onalaska.

The Loyal track and field team had the most athletes qualify for sectionals. The athletes had to place in the top four at regionals to qualify for sectionals. Athletes from Loyal who placed in the

The girls 4x200m relay team of Scherer, Tellock, Wolf and Robida, which took first place with a time of 1:46.56.

From Spencer, athletes who placed in the top four to advance to sectionals were: The boys 4x100m relay team of Jonas, Behselich, Anderson and Bauer, which placed first with a time of 44.06.

The boys 4x200m relay team of Jonas, Behselich, Anderson and Bauer, which placed second with a time of 1:33.73.

Nieman, who took second in the 110m hurdles (16.27). Miller, who placed third in both the 110m hurdles (17.10) and in the pole vault (12’6”).

Davis, who placed third in the 400m dash (1:04.86). From Greenwood, Horvath placed second at sectionals in both the shot put wheelchair (12’1”) and in the 100m wheelchair (27.11) events.

From Granton, athletes competed at the WIAA Division 3 Regional in Luther. Placing in the top four to qualify for sectionals were Gardner, who took third in the 400m dash (54.24) and Reinart, who placed second in the high jump (4’8”).

There were plenty of other individuals and relay teams who also competed for their respective teams to earn points at regionals. Results for those athletes are as follows.

From Loyal: Parker Smith, 6th, 300m hurdles, 45.97; Roxy Beranek, 6th, shot put, 42’; Deegan, 6th, 200m dash, 24.62, 7th, triple jump, 38’1.75”; Autumn Zvolena, 6th, 800m run, 2:42.79; Nikolai, 7th, 100m hurdles, 19.06; Maci Bogdonovich, 8th, 400m dash, 1:11.89; Peyton Tsai, 8th, pole vault, 10’6”; Molly Zvolena, 8th, long jump, 14’3”.

In relays, the girls 4x800m team (Autumn Zvolena, Noelle Teschner, Bogdonovich, Summer Smith) placed fifth with a time of 10:56.80. The same team also ran the 4x400m relay, taking fifth with a time of 4:48.05. The boys 4x400m relay team (Genteman, Rory Hanson, Parker Smith, Deegan) also took fifth place by finishing in 3:42.80. From Spencer: Kyle Nieman, 6th, pole vault, 12’; Caitlin Clark, 6th, 200m dash, 28.54; Zaprina Bulla, 8th, 1600m run, 7:54.88.

The girls 4x800m relay team of Kaydence Plaskey, Rachel Nieman, Theresa Knecht and Ariana Krueger took seventh with a time of 12:56.24. The 4x100m girls relay team of Rachel Nieman, Alina Jackson, Caitlin Clark and Davis placed fifth with a time of 54.94, and the boys 4x800m relay team of Logan Ehlert, Isaac Howlett, Teddy Meyer and Devyn Schmidt placed sixth with a time of 10:36.99.

From Greenwood: Katlund Etlicher, 6th, 3200m run, 15:14.09, 7th, 1600m run, 6:51.98; Rogan Travis, 7th, discus, 124’; Christian Thomas, 7th, 110m hurdles, 18.92, 7th, 300m hurdles, 48.18; Angel Anderson, 7th, 100m dash, 12.49.

The boys 4x200m team of Christian Thomas, Peyton Ellis, Hunter Ellis and Anderson took sixth with a time of 1:46.01. The boys 4x100m team of Anderson, Jaren Cullen, Hunter Ellis and Peyton Ellis placed eighth with a time of 50.66 and the girls 4x200m relay team of Lainy Trampush, Ella Riemer, Kayla Grambsch and Sarah Reiff took eighth with a time of 2:06.43.

In competition at Luther, athletes from Granton who also scored in the top eight to earn points were: Faustina Thomas, 7th, 400m dash, 1:10.31; Anna Kayhart, 8th, 300m hurdles, 57.29, 8th, triple jump, 29’2.5”; Gardner, 6th, 200m dash, 24.73.

In women’s events at Stratford, the Loyal girls earned 100 points to take second place behind Marathon (123). Also competing at the Stratford regional were Phillips (96), Edgar (88), Stratford (81), Abbotsford (61), Athens (59.5), Columbus Catholic (29.5), Rib Lake (23), Spencer (16), Prentice (12) and Greenwood (6).

In men’s events, teams placed as follows: Stratford (138), Marathon (101), Edgar (85), Phillips (77), Athens (73), Columbus Catholic (47), Spencer (44), Abbotsford (42), Loyal (37), Rib Lake (32), Greenwood (12) and Prentice (8).

Landon Behselich completes the hand-off to Elliot Bauer during the 4x100m relay. The boys team, which also includes Jonathon Jonas and Levi Anderson, will compete at state on June 2-3.
