Spencer’s Jonas, Miller win events at home track and field meet
Pleasant spring weather ushered in the Spencer High School Brian Picket Invitational May 9, with the Spencer Rockets capturing a few first-place finishes along the way before the night was over.
For the boys, Breckin Miller won the pole vault, clearing the bar at 12’6”. Johnathon Jonas showed his speed by winning the 200m dash with a time of 23.92. His teammates Landon Behselich and Elliot Bauer were right behind him, finishing second and third, respectively, with times of 24.20 and 24.33. Teammate Levi Anderson took sixth in that event at 24.65 and fifth in the 100m dash at 12.30.
Carter Griepentrog took fifth place in the discus event, with a throw of 102’9”. Teddy Meyer placed seventh in the high jump at 4’10”. In the 400m dash, Clay Nieman claimed eighth place at 1:02.80. Ryan Pokallus took eighth in the shot put at 33’10.25”.
The boys 4x100m relay team took first at 45.07 and the 4x800m relay team took second at 10:13.90.
The Spencer boys finished in the middle of the pack, taking fourth out of seven teams with 63.5 points. Other team scores were: Neillsville 192.5, Abbotsford 132, Columbus Catholic 91, Thorp 54, Gilman 36.5 and Greenwood 31.5.
Autumn Davis’ name appeared a couple of times toward the top of the girls’ results. She placed fourth in the 200m dash at 28.92 and third in the 400m dash at 1:05.70. Also for the girls, Caitlin Clark took fifth in the 200m dash with a time of 28.93. In the 400m dash, Alina Jackson took fourth at 1:11.20, Rachel Nieman took sixth at 1:14.60 and Clark took seventh at 1:15.40.
Kaydence Plaskey placed seventh in the 800m and 1600m runs, with times of 3:09.23 and 7:23.64, respectively. In the 100m hurdles, Alicia Ostricki took fifth at 21.55 while Zaprina Bulla took seventh at 26.60. Bulla also took third in the 300m hurdles at 1:04.56. Clark took sixth in the long jump at 12’7.5”. Elisha Blanchard placed sixth in the discus at 74’9” and Alyssa Kobs placed seventh in the shot put at 26’3.5”.
The Spencer girls ended in fifth place with 54 points. Other girls team scores were: Abbotsford 166.5, Gilman 104.5, Neillsville 104.5, Columbus Catholic 59, Thorp 50.5 and Greenwood 15.
