Spencer baseball team loses to O-W, claims victory over Greenwood
The Spencer Rockets lost a home game to Owen-Withee (O-W), Tuesday night, May 2. The game was tied 1-1 after seven innings, and Spencer lost 5-2 in nine innings.
Madden Prybylski started and combined with Reed Knecht to hold O-W to one hit and one run in first seven innings while striking out 12. Rocket pitchers combined only allowed four hits and struck out 17.
The Rocket bats were quiet, collecting only six hits and scoring two runs.
The top pitchers were Prybylski and Knecht. Prybylski pitched for 5.1 innings, allowing one hit, one earned run and five walks, and striking out nine. Knecht pitched 1.2 innings. He allowed zero hits and runs, and struck out three.
Prybylski and Knecht were also among the top hitters. Prybylski went 2-4, with one double and a stolen base. Knecht went 1-3. He had one intentional walk, one run and two stolen bases. Zack Roehrborn went 1-2 and walked twice.
After the loss a couple days earlier, the Rockets turned things around on Thursday, playing a doubleheader against Greenwood and winning both games, the first by a score of 15-7 and the second 12-0.
Carter Luepke was winning pitcher in first game, going five innings, giving up three earned runs and striking out six.
The top hitters were Knecht, who went 3-5 with two runs, three RBIs and one walk; Kaiden Miller, who went 2-4 with two runs, two RBIs and one walk; Andrew Sieracki, who also went 2-4 with three runs and two RBIs; and Luke Roehrborn, who went 3-4 with two RBIs and two walks.
In the second game, Sieracki was the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game and no-hitter. He pitched five innings, striking out nine.
Some familiar athletes again connected with ball when up to the plate. Prybylski went 3-4, scoring three runs and with three RBIs. Knecht went 2-2, with two runs and three RBIs. Miller was 2-3. He scored run and had two RBIs. Sieracki went 2-3 with two RBIs.
The wins boosted Spencer to a 5-1 record as of May 8, putting the team second among seven teams in the Cloverbelt-East with a winning percentage of 0.833.
