NGL claims 3rd at conference; Dux, Sebesta-Opelt earn 1st
At the Cloverbelt Conference Wrestling Tournament last Saturday, the Neillsville/Greenwood/Loyal (NGL) wrestlers finished close to the top of the pack, tying for third place among 11 schools. NGL scored 128.5 points in the Abbotsford contest, the same as Stanley-Boyd. Other point totals were: Cadott 236, Regis/Altoona 152, Bloomer/Colfax 118, Abbotsford/Colby 96, Spencer/ Marshfield Columbus 87, Thorp/Owen-Withee 67.5, Osseo-Fairchild/Augusta/ Fall Creek (OFAFC) 56, Granton 20 and Chippewa Falls McDonell 10.
Results for the individual weight classes were as follows: 126: Luke Dux (25-0) placed first and scored 23.5 points for his team. In the semifinal, he won by fall (3:23) over Nick Goettl of Cadott. In the first-place match, he won by technical fall over Troy Trevino of Stanley-Boyd.
132: Derek Zschernitz (25-7) placed third and scored 12 team points. He lost to Breckin Burzynski of Stanley-Boyd by 6-2 decision in the semifinal. In the thirdplace match, he won by fall (2:33) over Jacob LaGesse of Bloomer/Colfax.
138: Rogan Ashbeck (7-16) placed sixth and scored three team points. He lost the quarterfinal to Landen Hoel of Stanley-Boyd by fall (1:00). In the consolation semifinal, he lost by fall (3:05) to Mikey Weiler of Spencer/Columbus. He lost the fifth-place match to Alex Sundermeyer of Abbotsford/Colby by fall (1:48).
145: Hudzon Sebesta-Opelt (38-8) placed first and scored 24 team points. In the semifinal, he won by fall (0:37) over Brody Westrom of Stanley-Boyd. In the first-place match, he defeated Jackson Wesner of Regis/Altoona by fall (2:26).
152: Keeghan Anding (9-3) placed third and scored 16 team points. In the quarterfi nal, he won by fall (0:55) over Miles Lueck of Bloomer/Colfax. In the semifinal, he lost to Tommy Tomesh of Regis/ Altoona by decision, 11-7. In the consolation semifinal, he won by fall (0:32) over Jaden Garneau of Spencer/Columbus. In the third-place match, he won by decision over Brayden Meyer of Abbotsford/ Colby by decision, 6-4.
160: Jakob Luchterhand (26-22) placed fourth and scored 13 team points. In the quarterfinal, he won by fall (3:52) over
Greenwood rises to top against Gilman
Greenwood’s Rogan Travis supplies tight man-to-man defense against Gilman’s Brayden Olynick in the first half of the Jan. 31 game at Gilman. Greenwood won a close one, 45-39. Travis was his team’s leading scorer, earning 17 points. Other scorers for Greenwood were Christian Thomas with 13 and Ryver Glynn with nine.
