Athens boys win the North
Janke nets career high in points

The Athens varsity boys basketball team on Tuesday defeated Rib Lake, 63-56, at home to capture its third straight Marawood North Conference championship.
Athens senior center Aiden Janke scored a careerhigh 35 points in the win. He also secured a game-high 17 rebounds in the victory. Senior Connor Sheahan added eight points while senior Connor Komarek and junior Andy Schaer contributed six points apiece.
Senior Nathan Wolf paced the Bluejays with six assists and Komarek had four. Sheahan and Wolf tied for second on the team in rebounding with seven boards each.
Athens improves its record to 10-2 in the Marawood North Conference and 13-4 overall this season.
The Athens Bluejays also beat the Edgar Wildcats, 76-45, on Friday at home. Schaer led three Athens players in double-digit scoring with 21 points followed by Komarek with 20 and Sheahan with 18.
Janke added nine points and he paced the Bluejays with nine rebounds. Sheahan added eight rebounds while Schaer and Wolf grabbed five rebounds apiece. Wolf led Athens with two blocks. Junior Ryan Peel and Wolf paced the Bluejays in steals with two each.
Edgar junior Teegan Streit led the team with 12 points and seven rebounds. Juniors Brett Baumgartner and Karter Butt added 10 points each in the loss.
Raiders beat Tigers
Marathon’s varsity boys basketball squad on Tuesday beat Stratford, 62-51, at home. Red Raiders junior center Grant Warren led all players in the game with 24 points and 10 rebounds.
Red Raiders junior Tyler Underwood added 13 points while junior Cooper Hoeksema had 11. Senior Drew Love paced the team with five assists while senior Mason Seehafer and Hoeksema had four each. Seehafer hauled down nine rebounds and Hoeksema had six.
Tigers sophomore guard Brady Schmidt led his squad with 19 points in the loss. Senior guard Ashtyn Wrensch added 13 points and he paced the team with seven rebounds and five assists. Senior John Seitz III and Wrensch led Stratford with two steals apiece.
Marathon remains tied with Newman Catholic for first place in the Marawood South Conference. The Red Raiders currently have an 11-1 South record and are 14-3 overall this season. Marathon did lose a tight road game against Colby, 66-65, on a last-second shot made by the Hornets on Friday.
Warren scored 32 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the loss to Colby. Underwood added 16 points and Love had 13. Love was second on the team with 10 rebounds. Senior Daniel LaQua and Love paced the Red Raiders with four assists each. Freshman Drew Woelfel led Marathon with three steals.
