Athens junior Jazelle Hartwig was the volleyball team’s attack kills leader this season in helping guide the squad to the Marawood North Conference championship and WIAA Division 5 regional and sectional titles. She was awarded an unanimous Division 5 first team all-state volleyball player after the team’s state tournament semifinals match loss in five sets to Monticello.

Jazelle Hartwig paced the Bluejays with 375 kills this year and she was second on the team with 409 pass assists. She was also an unanimous Marawood Conference first team volleyball player for the second straight season.

Her mother, Athens head volleyball coach Tanille Hartwig, was named Marawood Conference North Coach of the Year after guiding the Bluejays to the North title this season. The Bluejays concluded this season at the state tournament with a 37-8 match record.

Athens senior Savannah Epping and junior Addison Lavicka were also a huge part of the team’s success this season, and they thus received honorable mention all-state in Division 5. Epping was named to the Marawood North Conference first team and Lavicka was an unanimous selection onto the first team.

Lavicka led Athens with 97 aces and 519 assists this season. She was second on the team with 348 kills. Epping paced the Bluejays with 559 digs this year.

Athens junior Sophia Coker was awarded second team all-conference this season. Her twin sister, Sydney Coker, and freshman Sy’Rih Hartwig received honorable mention all-conference this year.

Player of the Year

It was nice Reagan Borchardt of Edgar shared Marawood Conference volleyball Player of the Year honors with Vanessa Krueger of Marathon last season, but Borchardt wanted the award all to herself this year. Borchardt concluded a stellar 2022 volleyball regular season by being named Marawood Conference Player of the Year.

Borchardt was an unanimous first team Marawood Conference volleyball player for the second straight season. She led Edgar this year with 298 attack kills and 190 digs. She also was second on the team with 42 service aces. Oddly enough, although Borchardt was an even better volleyball player for the Wildcats this season, she didn’t garner any state awards. Last season, she received honorable all-state in Division 4 but this year she didn’t receive anything.

Edgar head coach Evan Krebsbach was named Marawood Conference South Coach of the Year. He guided the Wildcats to the Marawood South Conference title and a WIAA Division 4 regional championship. He also led the team into the sectional final, where it lost a heartbreaking match in five sets to Wittenberg-Birnamwood. Edgar concluded the 2022 season with a 25-7 match record.

Wildcats senior Leah Davis was also named first team Marawood Conference for the second straight season. She led the Wildcats with 53 aces and 314 assists. She was also second on the team with 145 digs.

Marathon senior Ashley Phakitthong and junior Ava Krueger were unanimous first team Marawood Conference players this season, along with receiving all-state honorable mention in Division 4. Ava Krueger led Marathon with 358 kills, 90 blocks and 58 aces this season. Phakitthong, meanwhile, paced the Red Raiders with 331 digs and 589 assists.

Edgar senior Kendalyn Dahlke and junior Emily Murkowski were named to the Marawood Conference second team this season, along with Stratford senior Ava Weix. Edgar senior Natalie Krause and junior Kyra Anderson received honorable mention all-conference, along with Marathon senior Kali Prihoda.

Stratford senior Tessa Berg and junior Kalyn Schueller received honorable mention all-conference honors for the second straight season.
