Wildcats easily beat the Lakers
Tigers also easily defeat the Beavers

The Edgar varsity football team’s offense was much more efficient than Turtle Lake on Friday in the Wildcats’ 42-6 WIAA Division 7 level 1 playoff home win.
Edgar only needed 29 plays to rack up 303 total offensive yards. Turtle Lake, meanwhile, needed 56 plays to get 246 offensive yards.
It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to score points, especially in the first quarter. Junior Karter Butt ran for a 62-yard touchdown and junior Kohlbe Weisenberger ran for a 31-yard score. Junior Harrison Graveen kicked successful extra points after both touchdowns.
Karson Butt added a three-yard plunge in the second quarter and Graveen kicked the extra point to give the Wildcats a 22-0 halftime advantage. Butt ran for a 20-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and sophomore Jase Apfelbeck ran for a sevenyard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Graveen kicked extra points following both touchdowns in the second half; he made four of five extra points against the Lakers. Graveen had a busy night with seven kickoffs for 332 yards for a 47.4 average each kickoff.
All but 11 of Edgar’s 303 yards of offense came from running the football. Karter Butt led the Wildcats with 10 carries for 182 yards and four touchdowns. Weisenberger contributed seven carries for 89 yards and one touchdown and Apfelbeck added four carries for 22 yards and one touchdown.
Edgar sophomore defensive back Leyton Schuett intercepted a pair of Turtle Lake passes, including one that he caught and downed in the end zone for a touchback. Senior defensive back Keghan Hartway led Edgar’s defense with 12 tackles while linebackers Karter Butt and Weisenberger added 11 tackles each. Senior defensive tackle Brady Stencil had eight tackles. Wildcats senior defensive tackle Dillan Yonker and junior defensive end Brett Baumgartner had one quarterback sack apiece.
Edgar made less mistakes than Turtle Lake. The Lakers recovered one of their two fumbles while the Wildcats didn’t have any fumbles. Turtle Lake had eight penalties for 91 yards compared to Edgar with only four penalties for 25 yards.
The Wildcats improve their record to 9-1 this season while the Lakers conclude their season with a 5-5 record. Edgar now plays a WIAA Division 7 Level 2 home playoff game at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 28, against Spring Valley. The Cardinals beat the Hurley Northstars, 12-8, in a Level 1 home playoff game. Spring Valley has a 9-1 record and the Cardinals haven’t lost a game since its season-opening 22-21 defeat at Durand-Arkansaw. Spring Valley won the Dunn-St. Croix Conference championship with an undefeated conference record.
Stratford posts shutout
Stratford’s varsity football squad wasted little time in defeating Cumberland, 54-0, in Friday’s WIAA Division 6 level 1 home playe, and 15 in the second quarter to take a commanding 48-0 halftime advantage against the Beavers.
Tigers junior Koehler Kilty ran the football 17 times for 110 yards and three touchdowns and senior Ryan Becker had six carries for 47 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Junior Gavin Leonhardt had a great all-around game with five rushes for 37 yards and one touchdown, a 63-yard touchdown reception and a 49-yard punt return.
Stratford senior quarterback Braeden Schueller completed seven of 10 passes for 155 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Senior Connor Weigel caught a 26-yard touchdown. Senior Evan Danielson made all four of his extra point kicks.
Senior John Seitz III led Stratford’s defense with seven tackles while seniors Becker and Weigel contributed five tackles each. Senior Ashtyn Wrensch intercepted a Cumberland pass.
Stratford improves its record to 7-21 this season while Cumberland ends its season with a 6-4 record. Stratford now plays a WIAA Division 6 level 2 home playoff game at 7 p.m. this Friday, Oct. 28, against Cadott at Marshfield Senior High School. Cadott has a 7-3 record after beating Ladysmith, 42-14, in a level 1 playoff home game.
