Athens senior cross country runner Connor Sheahan is blowing away his competition. He’s now won two straight races including the Athens Invitational on Thursday at picturesque Erbach Park and the Auburndale Invitational on Tuesday at Frey Field in rural Spencer.

Connor Sheahan beat Isaac Schaer of Marshfield Columbus at both the Athens and Auburndale Invitationals to garner individual race championships. On Tuesday, he helped the Athens boys win the Auburndale Invitational team title. The Athens girls took second place at the Auburndale Invite behind champion Stratford. Six Stratford girl runners placed in the top 10 at the Auburndale Invitational. Sophomore Kayla Casperson of Stratford took first place. Her sophomore teammate, Breleigh Skaya, placed fourth and senior Ella Heidmann was fifth. Stratford’s Samantha Mielke placed seventh, Kressa Wenzel ninth and Mercedes Kramer 10th.

Stratford’s girls cross country squad is ranked 13th in this week’s Division 3 poll.

Connor Sheahan’s younger sister, Brianna Sheahan, took third place for the Athens girls at Tuesday’s Auburndale Invitational.

Stratford boy runner Cree DeFoe took third place at the Auburndale Invite, followed by Nathan Wolf of Athens in fourth place. Andreew Schaer of Athens took sixth place. Lance Krieg of Stratford placed ninth and Ethan Heeg was 15th. Athens’ Riley Schulz-Becker took 18th place and Nicholas Pittman finished 19th.

On Thursday in Athens, Jacob Smith of Marathon took fifth place and Wolf of Athens was ninth. Jaron Gage of Marathon placed 11th and Schaer of Athens finished 16th. For the girls, Brianna Sheahan took 11th place at the Athens Invitational and Shilo Blake of Marathon was 18th.

The Phillips boys, which won the Athens Invitational championship, are ranked No. 5 in this week’s Division 3 poll. The Athens boys are hoping to beat Phillips in the upcoming Marawood Conference championship race at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 13, at Erbach Park in Athens. The Bluejays barely lost the Marawood Conference championship race to the Loggers last season in Phillips.
