Medford’s Guden named to Prep Baseball Report’s All-State team
Recent Medford Area Senior High graduate Caleb Guden added another honor to his lengthy list when he was named to Prep Baseball Report Wisconsin’s All-State Team for 2022.
The PBR Wisconsin staff announced its choices for its first team on June 29 and it included Guden as an infielder. In its writeup, PBR had this to say about Guden: “The Medford senior star was, yet again, dominant offensively, defensively, and from the mound this past spring. Guden hit exactly .500 with 14 extrabase hits, including five homers - one of which came against top-ranked Whitefish Bay at the stadium Franklin Field, a big ballpark, as part of our high school invitational back in April. Guden recorded an OPS of 1.383, stole 20 bases, and struck out just 10 times as a senior, all while providing slick shortstop defense. From the rubber, Guden finished his prep career with a 1.05 ERA in his senior spring in 46.2 innings, and he struck out 56 batters.”
Guden will continue his baseball career at the Air Force Academy.
PBR Wisconsin’s 2022 first team also includes infielders Cal Fisher of Deerfi eld, Alex Alicea of St. Thomas More, and JD Dix of Whitefish Bay; catcher Vidal Colon from the University School of Milwaukee, and outfielders Michael Lippe of Whitefish Bay, Landon Behringer of North Fond du Lac and Carson Hansen of Pewaukee. Mitch Voit of Whitefish Bay, Brayden Olson of St. Croix Falls and Chayce Osterhaus of Markesan were chosen as utility players and the pitchers are Keenan Mork of River Falls, Mason Buss of Hartland Arrowhead, Vincent Gohlke of New Berlin West, Ashton Michek of Bangor and Matthew Merlo of Random Lake.
Guden, a switch-hitter, went 43 for 86 with seven doubles, two triples and five home runs. He drove in 34 runs and scored 34 runs, drew 18 walks and only struck out 10 times in 112 plate appearances. His on-base percentage was .580 and his slugging percentage was .802.
Guden made 12 pitching appearances during the season with 11 starts and posted a 7-0 record with a 1.05 earned run average that ranks second in school history behind BJ Prokopiak’s 2004 record of 0.94. Guden allowed just seven earned runs in 46.2 innings pitched along with 28 hits and 18 walks.
Guden was previously named the Great Northern Conference Player of the Year and Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association Division 2 North Central District Player of the Year, both for the second straight season. He was a secondteam choice for the coaches association’s All-State team and made the All-State Academic Team.
