Pair of ‘Cats are honored

Edgar’s star sophomore duo, consisting of pitcher Makayla Wirkus throwing the ball to catcher Morgan Streveler, has garnered state recognition after helping guide the Wildcats to their first ever state tournament.

The Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (WFSCA) has awarded Wirkus second team all-state among Small Schools competing in Divisions 4 and 5 in the 2022 spring season. Streveler, meanwhile, receives honorable mention all-state among Small Schools.

Athens sophomore third baseman Addison Lavicka also gained honorable mention all-state among Small Schools. The WFSCA also awarded Wirkus, Streveler and Lavicka to the District No. 2 first team among Small Schools. Athens senior pitcher Siarra Hart received honorable mention in the WFSCA’s District No. 2. Hart played in the WFSCA’s senior all-star game, as a member of the Division 4/5 blue team, this summer for head coach Blake Edwards of Phillips.

Hart was an unanimous Marawood North Conference first team player for the second straight season. Lavicka is an unanimous first team all-conference player this season, after receiving first team all-conference last season without being an unanimous selection. Athens sophomore shortstop Jazelle Hartwig is a Marawood North Conference first teamer for the first time this season.

Bluejay sophomore twins Sophia and Sydney Coker are named second team all-Marawood North Conference in 2022. Athens sophomores Celina Ellenbecker and Jenna Handschke received honorable mention all-conference this season.

Wirkus of Edgar is an unanimous first team all-Marawood South Conference player for the second straight season. Streveler and Stratford junior Tessa Berg are unanimous all-conference players for the first time this season in their high school softball playing careers.

Edgar junior first baseman Leah Davis and Stratford freshman pitcher Laney Pankratz are awarded second team all-Marawood South Conference in 2022. Marathon senior centerfielder Jada Prihoda and sophomore catcher Bridget Salber also received second team all-Marawood South Conference this season.

Edgar juniors Reagan Borchardt and Ashley Erickson garnered honorable mention all-Marawood South Conference this season, as did Marathon seniors Ella Mader and Kayla Radtke. Stratford senior Ally Zuleger and freshman Emma Roeper also received honorable mention all- Marawood South Conference in the 2022 season.

Wiscconsin Rapids Assumption junior pitcher Ava Schill received both the Marawood South Conference and Division 5 Player of the Year awards in the 2022 spring season. She was also awarded Marawood South Conference Player of the Year in 2021.

Phillips junior Kendall Weik is the Marawood North Conference Player of the Year this season, after her teammate, senior Jada Eggebrecht, was the conference’s Player of the Year in 2021.
