Edgar’s varsity baseball team avenged its sectional finals loss to Greenwood last season with a convincing 13-3 home WIAA Division 4 win in five innings against the Indians on Tuesday.

The Wildcats succumbed to the Indians, 7-3, in the Division 5 sectional championship in Athens last season, ending the team’s dreams of advancing to the program’s first state tournament in school history. This year’s Edgar squad, 14-5, advances to play at Marshfield Columbus, 17-3, in a WIAA Division 5 regional championship today (Wednesday). The winner between the Wildcats and Dons will play in sectionals this Tuesday, June 7, in Gillett.

Stratford’s varsity baseball squad defeated Northland Pines, 7-2, in Tuesday’s home WIAA Division 3 regional semifinal. Stratford won’t, however, be playing its usual foe Marathon in the regional championship today (Wednesday) at home. That’s because Marathon, 14-6, lost 6-3 at Wittenberg-Birnamwood, 19-5, on Tuesday. Therefore, the Tigers will face the Chargers.

Senior Camden Daul earned the complete-game pitching win for Stratford against Northland Pines. He gave up six hits, one walk and two earned runs while striking out four batters on the mound.

Jack Tubbs hit two for four with two runs scored and Jackson Ormond was two for four with an RBI and two runs scored for the Tigers. Vance Kielman batted two for three with one run scored, while Henry Zaleski was one for three with two RBIs. Braeden Schueller hit one for three with a pair of RBIs in the victory against Northland Pines, Brady Schmidt was one for three with an RBI, Gavin Kirsch was one for four with one run scored and Cole Tichy scored a run.

The winner between Stratford and Wittenberg-Birnamwood will advance to play in sectionals this Tuesday, June 7, in Crivitz.

Athens baseball concluded its season on Tuesday with a 5-0 home loss to Rib Lake in a WIAA Division 5 regional semifinal. The Bluejays end this season with a 9-9 record, while the Redmen improve to 11-7.
