Large group headed to Division 3 Track and Field Sectional

A sizable pack of area track and field athletes will be moving on to Sectional competition after placing in the top four at the WIAA Division 3 Regional held in Colby on May 23. The teams from Loyal, Spencer, Greenwood and Granton will all have participants in the next round, including several relay teams, which were the strengths of the teams at the Regional.

The Loyal girls team will have the most athletes at the Sectional that will be held in Mondovi on May 26. Moving on to Sectionals by placing in the top four will be: -- The 4x200m relay team of Alyssia Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Lisa Steffens and Leah Scherer, which placed first at Regionals with a time of 1:50.08.

-- The 4x100m relay team of Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Alyssia Zvolena and Aubre Robida, which took first place with a time of 51.88.

-- The 4x400m relay team of Abrial Kubista, Noelle Teschner, Lisa Steffens and Sheila Tellock, which finished second with a time of 4:30.52.

-- The 4x800m relay team of Autumn Zvolena, Alexis Meyer, Hanna Strey and Maci Bogdonovich, which took fourth with a time of 12:10.77.

-- Alyssia Zvolena in the high jump (1st, 5'2').

-- Aubre Robida in the 100m dash (1st, 13.41) and in the 200m dash (2nd, 27.61).

-- Leah Scherer in the 200m dash (1st, 27.60).

-- Abrial Kubista in the triple jump (1st, 30'9').

-- Lisa Steffens in the 400m dash (2nd, 1:04.62).

-- Haven Peroshek in the shot put (2nd, 34'4.5') and in the discus (4th, 99'2').

-- Sheila Tellock in the pole vault (3rd, 9'6').

-- Autumn Zvolena in the high jump (4th, 4'9').

-- Molly Zvolena in the triple jump (4th, 30'9').

Moving on for the Loyal boys will be: -- Connor Genteman in both the 800m run (3rd, 2:10.39) and in the 1600m run (4th, 4:52.93).

Representing Greenwood at the Sectional on Thursday will be: -- The girls 4x400m relay team of Kia Abel, Bria Thomas, Candela Soto and Sarah Reiff, which finished third at Regionals with a time of 4:48.67.

-- The boys 4x800m relay team of Avrey Horvath, Cody Eckes, Hunter Ellis and Christian Thomas, which placed third with a time of 10:03.56.

-- Ashtin Palms in the 300m hurdles (1st, 43.38) and in the 110m hurdles (3rd, 17.97).

-- Avrey Horvath in the 3200m run (3rd, 10:59.86).

-- Lauren Ingold in the shot put (3rd, 31'3').

-- Kia Abel in the 100m hurdles (4th, 18.34).

Making up the group of Spencer athletes that took placings in the top four at the Colby Regional and who will be competing at Sectionals are: -- The boys 4x200m relay team of Landon Behselich, Alexander Baumgarten, Kaizer Eikleberry and Malachai Anderson, which placed third with a time of 1:41.36.

-- The boys 4x100m relay team of Alexander Baumgarten, Landon Behselich, Noah Schultz and Niklas Pohl, which placed third with a time of 48.41.

-- The boys 4x400m relay team of Levi Anderson, Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eikleberry and Noah Schultz, which finished third with a time of 3:53.51.

-- Leah Zastrow in the pole vault (1st, 11').

-- Kyle Nieman in the pole vault (3rd, 10') and in the 100m hurdles (4th, 18.51).

-- Noah Schultz in the 400m dash (3rd, 54.05).

-- Emily Wehrman in the 1600m run (4th, 6:12.84).

Representing the Granton track and field team at Sectionals will be: -- Faustina Thomas in the 400m dash (4th, 1:07.76).

Besides the individuals moving on to the Sectional round, there were plenty of other athletes scoring points for their respective teams at Colby. For the Loyal boys, other results are: 4x200m relay team (Peyton Farmer, Preston Farmer, Bo Bogdonovich, Parker Smith), 5th, 1:47.51; 4x100m relay team (Preston Farmer, Peyton Farmer, Peyton Tsai, Ayden Collins), 7th, 52.67; Parker Smith, 5th, 300m hurdles, 49.32, 7th, high jump, 4'10'; Jaden Smith, 6th, shot put, 33'7.75'; Preston Farmer, 7th, shot put, 33'7.25'; Peyton Tsai, 8th, high jump, 4'8'.

Other individual and relay results for the Spencer track and field team are: Girls 4x400m relay team (Theresa Knecht, Emily Wehrman, Hannah Reckner, Aurora Porcu), 6th, 5:18.32; girls 4x200m relay team (Aurora Porcu, Hannah Reckner, Daniela Guzman Pallares, Sabrina Alessio), 7th, 2:18.30; Alexander Baumgarten, 5th, pole vault, 9'6'; Landon Behselich, 6th, 100m dash, 12.32; Levi Anderson, 6th, 400m dash, 57.83; Caitlin Clark, 8th, 200m dash, 30.37.

For the Granton track and field team, other individual results are: Alex Gardner, 5th, 400m dash, 56.64; Lizzy Reinart, 5th, high jump, 4'8'; Faustina Thomas, 6th, triple jump, 30'2'; Anna Kayhart, 8th, 100m hurdles, 20.55.

As a team, the Loyal girls earned 143 points to finish second at the Colby Regional, finishing behind Colby (161). Greenwood took seventh place with 26 points, Spencer finished in ninth place with 21 points and Granton tied with John Edwards for 11th with 13 points. For the boys events, Spencer placed seventh with 45 points, Greenwood took eighth with 39 points, Loyal was 10th with 29 points and Granton placed 12th with four points.

Ashtin Palms of Greenwood leaps high over one of the hurdles as he makes his way around the track during the 300m event. He took first place in the 300m hurdles at Regionals and will be representing Greenwood at Sectionals on May 26.

Abrial Kubista of Loyal goes for distance in the triple jump while competing at Colby on May 23. She placed first in the event for Loyal and will be at the Sectional in Mondovi on Thursday in that event.
