Tiger boys, Raider girls capture titles

Stratford’s boys track and field team on Monday captured the Marawood Conference championship for the first time in 20 years. Marathon’s girls track and field squad, meanwhile, won its second straight conference title.

The Tiger boys took first place with 125.5 points. Edgar placed second with 116 points, Auburndale was third with 116, Marathon fourth with 97 and Athens fifth with 65.

Before this year, Stratford’s boys track and field squad last won the Marawood Conference title in 2002. The conference title drought is finally over for the Tiger boys.

Stratford head coach Nate Heeg said at the start of this season he thought his boys team had a great shot to win the conference championship, because it had more boys competing and talent across multiple events to score points.

“It was a great night,” he said. “When you have a group of kids come together and work as one team, then great things happen. The athletes knew their assignments and what role they had to play to make it happen, and then they went out and executed it for each other. Winning the Marawood Conference championship was their goal from the beginning of this season and I couldn’t be happier for them. This conference championship means a lot for Stratford track and field. Twenty years ago is a long time and it’s exciting to be a part of this group of athletes and coaches.”

Marathon’s girls track and field team on Monday tallied 154.5 points to win back-to-back Marawood Conference championships. Edgar placed second with 103.75 points, Abbotsford was third with 84.25 and Stratford fourth with 69. Athens tied with Rib Lake for 10th place with 20 points each.

Red Raiders head coach Curt Miller said, “Winning the Marawood Conference championship was a complete team effort,” he said. “We had 16 girls compete in the meet and all of them scored points to contribute to the team score. Our seven seniors led the way with each of the seven competing seniors finding their way with top-three podium finishes.”

Individual track and field athletes who took first place on Monday in Marathon earn first team all-Marawood Conference honors, while those who placed second receive second team allconference. Athletes who placed third and fourth are honorable mention allconference performers this season.

Jenna Aschbrenner of Marathon took first place in the girls pole vault with 10 feet. Vanessa Krueger of Marathon placed third with eight feet and Malaina Teschow of Athens was fourth with eight feet. Caden Decker of Athens won the boys pole vault with 14 feet while Ryan Peel of Athens placed second with 14 feet, six inches; Aiden Guralski of Athens was third with 12 feet and Jacob Smith of Marathon fourth with 11 feet.

Ashbrenner of Marathon also won the girls high jump with four feet, 10 inches. Laci Hoeksema of Marathon placed second with four feet, 9 inches and Sarah Zuelke of Stratford was third with four feet, nine inches. Xander Curtice of Stratford placed third in the boys high jump with five feet, seven inches and Ayden Weisenberger of Edgar was fourth with five feet, six inches.

Jaidyn Wright of Stratford took first place in the girls long jump with 16 feet, seven inches. Morgan Schnelle of Edgar placed second with 16 feet, one inch; Aschbrenner of Marathon was third with 15 feet, 7-1/2 inches and Chloe Lavalley of Marathon fourth with 14 feet, 11 inches. Everet Brehm of Edgar took second place in the boys high jump with 20 feet, 7-3/4 inches and Mattison Butt of Edgar was fourth with 19 feet, 2-3/4 inches.

Wright of Stratford also won the girls triple jump with 34 feet, 11 inches. Katlyn Schreiner of Athens placed third with 32 feet, 6-1/4 inches and Rachel Schneider of Edgar was fourth with 31 feet, 9-1/2 inches. Brehm of Edgar took first place in the boys triple jump with 43 feet, 8-3/4 inches. Teegan Streit of Edgar placed second with 41 feet, 7-1/4 inches; Mattison Butt of Edgar was third with 41 feet, 3-1/4 inches and Griffin Treankler of Marathon fourth with 40 feet, 1-3/4 inches.

Alyssa Hall of Marathon took second place in the girls discus with 104 feet, four inches while Alexis Folz of Stratford was third with 102 feet, one inch and Ashley Gertschen of Marathon fourth with 98 feet, 10 inches. Aiden Hanke of Athens placed second in the boys discus with 144 feet, five inches and Brett Gertschen of Marathon was third with 142 feet.

Hall of Marathon won the girls shot put with 34 feet, 1/2 inches and Folz of Stratford was fourth with 33 feet, 3-1/2 inches. Janke of Athens won the boys shot put with 49 feet, three inches while Koehler Kilty of Stratford placed second with 44 feet, seven inches and Brett Gertschen of Marathon was third with 42 feet, 8-1/2 inches.

The Stratford girls 4x800-meter relay team of Kayla Casperson, Sadie Weigel, Lydia Goldbach, Breleigh Skaya, Ella Heidmann and Samantha Mielke took second place in 10 minutes, 23.42 seconds. Marathon’s relay of McKinnley Marks, Hoeksema, Calyse Fieri, Shilo Blake, Julianna Thurs and Alexis Nowak placed third in 10 minutes, 26.34 seconds.

Stratford’s boys 4x800-meter relay squad of brothers Elijah Lucio and Noah Lucio, Ethan Heeg, Kaden Foster, Lance Krieg and Derek Wiese took first place in eight minutes, 43.97 seconds.

Malia Hoesly of Edgar placed fourth in the girls 100-meter hurdles in 17.49 seconds. Michael Kindlarski of Marathon won the boys 110-meter hurdles in 15.72 seconds while Treankler of Marathon placed second in 15.94, Streit of Edgar third in 16.35 and Garrett Zuelke of Stratford in 17.85.

Morgan Schnelle of Edgar won the girls 100-meter dash in 12.76 seconds and Grace Kahon of Marathon placed second in 12.78. Kohlbe Weisenberger of Edgar placed third in the boys 100-meter dash in 11.46 seconds.

Connor Sheahan of Athens won the boys 1,600-meter run in four minutes, 48.82 seconds while Jaron Gage of Marathon placed third in four minutes, 59.18 seconds.

Edgar’s girls 4x200-meter relay squad of Rachel Schneider, Amelia Hajewski, Natalie Thompson, Brooke Imhoff and Malana Koehler took second place in one minute, 53.84 seconds. Edgar’s boys 4x200-meter relay team of brothers Mattison and Karter Butt, Carver Higgins, Jase Apfelbeck and Avery Normington placed second in one minute, 36.04 seconds.

Morgan Schnelle of Edgar placed second in the girls 400-meter dash in one minute, 1.83 seconds and Ava Krueger of Marathon was fourth in one minute, 6.29 seconds. Conner Weigel of Stratford won the boys 400-meter dash in 51.52 seconds and Kohlbe Weisenberger of Edgar was fourth in 52.33.

Marathon’s girls 4x100-meter relay team of Aschbrenner, Alexandria Kraimer, Alisha Blenker, Jersey Lobner, Grace Kahon and Vanessa Krueger took first place in 52.45 seconds. Edgar’s 4x100-meter relay squad of Schneider, Amber Skrzypcak, Olystra Baumann, Koehler and Imhoff placed second in 53.10 seconds.

Stratford’s boys 4x100-meter relay team of Peyton Glenn, Darin Heeg, Kaden Foster, Noah Barrett, Kaden Griesmer and Kilty took second place in 47.02 seconds. Edgar’s boys 4x100meter relay squad of Karter Butt, Ty Schnelle, Higgins, Apfelbeck, Avery Normington and Owen Baumann placed third in 47.09 seconds.

Amber Skrzypcak of Edgar took second place in the girls 300-meter hurdles in 52.33 seconds and Chloe Lavalley of Marathon was fourth in 54.43. Griffin Treankler of Marathon won the 300-meter hurdles in 42.01 seconds while Streit of Edgar placed second in 42.24, Darin Heeg of Stratford was third in 43.41 and Brehm of Edgar fourth in 43.46.

Ella Heidmann of Stratford took fourth place in the girls 800-meter run in two minutes, 33.42 seconds. Noah Lucio of Stratford won the boys 800-meter run in two minutes, 5.59 seconds and Elijah Lucio was third in two minutes, 6.84 seconds.

Morgan Schnelle of Edgar won the girls 200-meter dash in 26.47 seconds while Grace Kahon of Marathon placed second in 27.60 and Jersey Lobner of Marathon was third in 28.24. Ayden Weisenberger of Edgar took third place in the boys 200-meter dash in 23.72 seconds and Jett Schoenherr of Stratford was fourth in 23.72.

Connor Sheahan of Athens won the boys 3,200-meter run in 10 minutes, 40.54 seconds and Cree DeFoe of Stratford placed second in 10 minutes, 46.67 seconds.

Marathon’s girls 4x400-meter relay team of Ava Krueger, McKinnley Marks, Jayden Henrichs, Hoeksema, Lobner and Lena Putnam took first place in four minutes, 24.50 seconds.

Stratford’s boys 4x400-meter relay squad of Conner Weigel, Elijah and Noah Lucio, Xander Curtice, Garrett Zuelke and Cooper Bosmans took first place in three minutes, 36.67 seconds. Marathon’s boys 4x400-meter relay team of Jaron Gage, Parker Mathwich, Michael Kindlarski, Griffin Treankler and Mathew Annis took second place in three minutes, 37.55 seconds. Edgar’s boys 4x800-meter relay team of Everet Brehm, Mattison Butt, Braden Finck, Teegan Streit, Avery Normington and Owen Baumann placed third in three minutes, 38.55 seconds.

Drake Carlson of Marathon won the boys shot put wheelchair with 18 feet, 2-1/4 inches, 100-yard dash wheelchair in 21.88 seconds, 400-yard dash in one minute, 20.65 seconds and the 800-yard dash in two minutes, 27.05 seconds.
