Greyhound girls grab second at Blair-Taylor and Stratford invitationals

The Loyal girls track and field team took second place in two invitationals last week, competing at Blair-Taylor on May 3 and at Stratford on May 5. The team showed considerable strength in their field events and relay teams, which made up more than half of their scored events.

At the invite on May 3, four relay teams competed for the lady Greyhounds. Taking first place was the 4x200m relay team (1:58.39) of Molly Zvolena, Sheila Tellock, Haven Peroshek and Alyssia Zvolena. The 4x100m relay team (Hope Peroshek, Aubre Robida, Zvolena, Tellock) took second place with a time of 55.30, while the 4x400m relay team of Abrial Kubista, Noelle Teschner, Olivia Nikolai and Tellock took third with a time of 4:38.16. Molly Zvolena, Hannah Strey, Alexis Brecht and Maci Bogdonovich finished fourth with a time of 13:03.58.

For the Loyal boys, three individuals placed in the top eight at Blair-Taylor. Connor Genteman took first place in the 800m run (2:11.54) and second in the 1600m run (4:56.6). Bo Bogdonovich finished in fifth in the 400m dash with his time of 1:01.45 and Parker Smith leapt 32’2.5” in the triple jump to take seventh.

At the Stratford Invite on May 5, three of the Greyhound girls relay teams took first place. The 4x100m relay team (Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Alyssia Zvolena, Aubre Robida) ran a 52.65; the 4x200m team (Leah Scherer, Sheila Tellock, Haven Peroshek, Alyssia Zvolena) finished in 1:54.01; and the 4x400m relay team (Abrial Kubista, Noelle Teschner, Olivia Nikolai, Sheila Tellock) ran a 4:38.77 to all win their events. The 4x800m relay team of Hannah Strey, Alexis Meyer, Alexis Brecht and Maci Bogdonovich took fourth with a time of 13:22.56.

For the Loyal boys at Stratford, only Connor Genteman managed to place in the top eight. He took second in the 1600m run with a time of 4:55.14 and finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:13.9.

The Spencer Rockets track and field team was also at the invitationals held at Blair-Taylor and in Stratford. At the meet on May 3, three relay teams competed for the boys and girls. The boys 4x400m relay team of Levi Anderson, Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eickleberry and Noah Schultz took third with a time of 3:53.75 and the boys 4x200m relay team of Levi Anderson, Landon Behselich, Alexander Baumgarten and Malachai Anderson finished fourth with a time of 1:42. 63. Emily Wehrman, Hannah Reckner, Daniela Guzman Pallares and Theresa Knecht ran the 4x400m relay for the girls in 5:08.53 for sixth.

Individual results for the Spencer boys and girls at Blair Taylor are as follows: Leah Zastrow, 1st, pole vault, 11’, 8th, 100m dash, 14.75; Emily Wehrman, 4th, 800m run, 2:50.7; Noah Schultz, 1st, 400m dash, 54.66; 6th, 100m dash, 12.30; Kyle Nieman, 1st, pole vault, 10’6”, 4th, 110m hurdles, 19’11”, 7th, 300m hurdles, 48.82; Alexander Baumgarten, 2nd, pole vault, 10’, 7th, 200m dash, 48.82; Kaizer Eickleberry, 7th, 300m hurdles, 48.82.

A smaller group placed at Stratford on May 5. Levi Anderson, Malachai Anderson, Kaizer Eickleberry and Noah Schultz ran the 4x400m relay for the boys, taking fourth with a time of 3:49.11.

At the Blair-Taylor invitational, the Loyal girls took second place among 13 teams with 125 points. The Spencer girls placed 12th overall with 19 points. For the boys, Spencer took eighth at Blair Taylor with 52 points and Loyal placed 10th with 24 points.

During competition at Stratford, the Loyal girls took second with 131 points while Spencer took 11th with 12 points. In the boys events, Spencer placed 10th with 13 points and Loyal took 11th with 13 points.
